hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and went veg again after years of struggling with health issues. I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy in 2000 and told to eat meat again. Duh! Should have never done it. My health went from bad to worse.

Recently, I've just had a gut instinct to go vegetarian and slowly work my way towards vegan. I'm in Texas, so it's not easy, but I simply don't care anymore what other people think. It just feels like the right thing to do for my body.

If I get the annoying comments, I'm just saying that my Mom is battling cancer for a 2nd time and vegetarians & vegans have a significantly lower risk of cancer than meat eaters.

Cheers, Janel

If you're in/near Dallas or Ft. Worth, you should check out Spiral Diner (if you haven't already) ! All their food is awesome and it's all vegan! We never make a trip to Dallas without eating there.

Hi Janel!

I'm in East Texas, I live in a little hick town called Tatum, which is about 30 minutes from Longview (2.5 hrs from Dallas), one hour from Shreveport, LA. My advice would be to check out some cookbooks, browse the recipes here and on vegweb.com. You can do it, it just takes careful planning. I hope you are feeling better soon and I'm sorry about your mom, that must be scary for you.
Take care!
Hi folks,

Thanks for the replies. I'm in a tiny town just outside of San Antonio, so Green's Vegetarian Restaurant has become my very fave! They have the most amazing vegan chili dogs ever...and vegan cupcakes

My omni European husband just told me to go crazy on Amazon with vegan cookbooks. I'm the cook, so naturally he's hoping that I'll get inspired and stop making the same 10 meals repeatedly, because I know that they are vegan and healthy. LOL! Can't wait until the new cookbooks arrive.
