I really don't like the fact that all the veggie dogs and veggie slices are loaded with processed wheat, sugars and additives... I know that is because of the processing and taste, but I can't find any veggie dogs or slices which are whole grain, has no white wheat, and has no sugar!! I've found veggie burgers which are pretty good, but not slices or dogs

I give up... I should make my own. Is there any good recipes?

So far I have not found any vegi dogs that were edible--- IMHO. Here is a link to all sorts of vegetarian sausages. http://www.webvalue.net/recipes/sausage.htm

its pretty rubbish, i agree. i can't use wheat or sugar (or yeast, msg, gluten, etc) so no veggiedogs or the like for me...

at home in england i found some chilled tofu sausages that were very much 'dog-esque'.. (well, they seemed it, with my very limited experience of the hotdog, anyway) that were perfect.

the ingredients were pretty much tofu, veggie stock, herbs and seasonings, and milled oats. they were lush- quite expensive, but lush none the less- but i haven't found anything remotely of that nature in canada.

slices aren't too bad to make yourself- some thinly sliced marinaded firm tofu, (frozen then defrosted if you want) pan fried or baked, can work (you could use fake meat stock cubes (you can get veggie suitable chicken and beef flavoured stock cubes!), or some kinda liquid smoke thing to marinade - which i think is probably toxic, lol- for a meaty flavour, though i use braggs, tomato paste blended with water, lemon juice and spices, cos i don't like meat flavours).

you could use teeny cookie cutters to get pepperoni style circles too (stars and daisies sounds like more fun though, lol) but i think for tofu based hotdogs you'd probably need something like a 2 piece sausage shaped mold to press them into the right shape with.

if you find out how to make tofu dogs, and they hold together, please let me know, i'd LOVE to try making some tofu dogs
