Vegetarians and vegans,

Do you think the economy would survive if there was to be a massive increase of vegetarians and or vegans?

Yes I do. History has already dealt with dramatic dietary changes of large populations. Some businesses will fail, others will thrive, and life will go on.

Yes, everyone still has to eat! If it was sudden then for a while there would be too many animals and the price of meat would go down, but eventually everything would even out. I'm old enough to remember when 'most' people smoked and when a lot of people quit the tobacco farmers found other crops to grow instead. Chickens are slaughtered at only a few weeks old and even cows are only I think a year old (or maybe less) so it wouldn't take long to reduce the production once they realized the demand for them was down.

I actually think the economy would do better in the long run, less wasted resources going towards food production.

I think that the world would be better off with a plant based diet, there will be hardly any illness and sickness and people will live longer and there would not be too much worries where you get your food. I am finding that when I started eating natural and watching what I ate and stuff I started to feel full more and I feel much better when I eat only what my body needs.
A few times when my parents had us over to stay for vacations and Christmas, if my mom cooks something or we all go out to eat and bring home leftovers, two days she just doesn't asks us and she tosses them away without telling us, she does this to make room for more foods and some of it is their omni foods. If people would eat up what they have in fridge first before cooking more stuff and food then they would not waste it.
