Just wondering if anyone else uses or has used some of the different vegetarian pet foods.

I had my cat on Evolution cat food for 4 years. It was sufficient in all nutrients essential for cats, only problem was that it did not control the pH of the urine well (plant based diets create more alkaline urine), while cats needs a slightly acidic urine to be healthy. She developed a bladder stone at a very young age, but with a urinary acidifier added to her food she did well for several years. Due to medical reasons i had to switch her to a prescription diet now though. She ate the vegetarian food, but it wasn't her favorite.

Dogs do better w/ vegetarian diets...they are also more readily available, but have never used any.

My dog eats Natural Balance vegetarian formula. They love it. But, they also eat a lot of grains, fresh fruit, veggies, tofu now and then, etc.

Have any long term studies been done on cats on veggie diets? No way would mine switch over now, but in the future I would ideally like vegetarian pets if they could stay fully healthy and not suffer from increased problems / decreased lifespan.

not feasible long term with current conditions.

although the bible prophesies a return to this:

Isa 11:6 The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.

Isa 11:7 The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

Isa 11:8 The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den.

Isa 11:9 They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
