Ok, well, I don't know about your school, but my school has hardly anything that's vegetarian friendly. I asked the lunch lady if they sold "Vegetarian Sandwiches" and she looked at me and said "We have tuna sandwiches, turkey sandwiches, and egg sandwiches"

So, I end up taking my own lunch to school. Which brings up my next problem. What to take? So far this year my lunch, everyday, has consisted of: A NutriGrain bar, a fruit cup, and a juice box. Appetizing eh?

So my question to my fellow vegetarians is...any lunch ideas?

also, you could read the BACK2SCHOOL: what's in your veg*n lunchbox? thread. A lot of the teens here (myself included) pack our lunches almost every day and record it there.

I thought of everything sold in my cafeteria and there is not a single item - except water, juice and plain baked Lay's - that is vegan. Just thought I'd let you know you're not alone. Definitely check out all the above sources. Good luck!

You would think that they could at least make a sandwich without meat on it, I mean, it's really not that hard. I've written to our lunch program manager about it, and still haven't got a reply.

good for you! my school has salads for us, but um.. yeah they have those little disgusting turkey and chicken cubes all over them! I mean come on!! just ONE thing not coverd in meat would be nice (i would ask for a meal not containing ANY animal prodcuts, but i think that would be pushing my luck!)

I bring lunch to school because my cafeteria doesn't serve vegetarian food, either. Here's some stuff I usually bring:

- hummus on whole wheat bread

- tupperware of pasta/ pasta salad

- chili ( I eat this cold, cause I'm weird like that)

- fresh fruit (banana, apple, grapes)

- pita chips

- Larabar

- wrap w/ hummus, sprouts, lettuce, onions, etc.

- baby carrots

Just a side note because I'm sure by now you have more than enough resources to get started. I encourage all vegetarian and vegans to pack their lunches and do it in a healthy and flavorful way. I think when you come to lunch with a Luna bar and bottle of water (I've done that plenty of times) you fuel criticism that vegetarians are lacking many things in their diet. But when you bring a healthy, vibrant, plentiful, delicious looking lunch, you prove that vegetarian or veganism is a way of life and their are zillions of options (which there are, they just require a bit of searching!) Anyhooo good luck! And invest in some reusable containers so you don't waste!
