Vegans + Folic Acid

I went into Vitamin Shoppe and the sales lady was trying to sell me Folic Acid because I'm a vegan. I went in there for B12, and she recommended a brand but I can't recall the name of it. Is it really necessary for a vegan to take Folic Acid? She said it will help my blood, I really don't know. Does anyone recommend any good multi/B12/calcium vitamins? I've been a vegan for four months now and I mainly rely on a multivitamin + meals + soymilk for my vitamins and nutrients. The sales woman was also trying to sell me protein powder [which I already have, and don't use because it's gross.] I'd rather eat beans everyday for protein, which I do. Then she also said I needed to get some other drink because I couldn't possibly get all my vitamins and minerals from a plant based diet alone. As far as I know that's incorrect, with the exception of B12. I didn't buy into anything she said, because I know it's her job to sell. Just incase though, I'd like some help from other vegans who have experience or have any good recommendations.

**She also asked me if I ate fish knowing that I am a vegan, and claimed that animals are here for us to eat....I think not.

Do you eat a lot of green leafy vegetables, broccoli, spinach, peas, oranges and fortified cereals? If you eat some of these foods daily, you are getting folic acid.

This woman sounds like she was full of hot air and just trying to sell you a sh!tload of product.

How is your diet? Do you supplement B-12 already? Do you eat a colorful array of fruits and vegetables?

I eat vegetables everyday, plus tofu sometimes, wheat macaroni, the healthy cereals, sometimes oatmeal. I eat a lot of green apples and peanut butter for snacks. I have not become sick, nor have I felt weak because I'm not eating dairy and eggs anymore, and it's been four months. It's rare that I eat true junk food, because it's not easy to find vegan junk food. I just went back to Vitamin Shoppe today and bought a 30 count bottle of 5000 mcg B12. The woman had told me to buy the 3000 mcg and take two a day. Is 5000 mcg enough if I take one a day, or about four times a week? I also get it from soymilk, and my multivitamin.
I take VEG1 from the vegansociety.com ....

I have been having that for 2 months now and I also take spatone for Iron as a blood test showed I was low in iron.. So when I take another bloodtest it will be interesting..
