I love to travel, but haven't gone overseas since I went vegan. I'm planning a solo trip to Japan. Any tips for staying on course with my vegan diet while I'm there? I got the feeling that I'll probably be eating much of the same food everyday.
I actually got a job teaching english in Japan-and before I ended up turning it down I checked out being vegan in Japan. So first thing you can do is check out Happy Cow-www.happycow.net because it will tell you the restaurants and health food stores. Second bring along some staples with you. The hard thing will be staying away from seafood because it is so prevalent. Learn how to ask for your food needs in Japanese! I know there are certain religious groups in Japan that are strict vegetarian. You can also order the international vegetarian card-that says basically what vegans can and can't eat in different languages-you can find it on the internet. Also there are a couple of people on this board currently living in Japan so hopefully they can give you some more specific answers.
I like Japan a lot myself and these groups below should

assist if you give them a firm and persuasive nudge!!!!!

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TokyoVeg

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/veganjapan

If convenient, to do so I'd love to hear how well you get on if you'd like to share your thoughts and goings on at some point... Never been to Japan myself YET but fully intend to someday, so deciding when I might alight a plane to do that remains 'open-plan' at the moment as does the money to get me there... LOL

Also, check back here for a couple of other sites I may

have in connection with veganism and japan shortly...

I need to dig them out.
You might also want to ask dvmarie. She's living in Japan right now and might have some good info for you.
