Vegan + Spirituality ... looking for books.

I'm in need of some new reading material. I'd like to find something that has a veg-spiritual connection. It wouldn't have to be specific to veganism per se, but the clearer the connection the better. I don't consider myself to be of any particular religion, but tend to gravitate more towards eastern ways of thinking (Hinduism, Buddhism, etc.). I already have plenty of general veg health and animal welfare type books, but am currently wanting something more enriching and less gross and/or depressing.

Can anyone recommend some good books?

While his writings don't pertain to veg*nism, I've always enjoyed Thich Nhat Hanh's writings.

+1 to Thich Nhat Hanh. The best I've read is "Transformations at the Base"
The World Peace Diet (dot org) is what I suggest.
Eastern . . . Orthodoxy? hahah. The writings of St. Basil the Great and St. Isaac of Nineveh contains some aspects of animal rights. Eastern Orthodox actually incorporate the abstaining of animal flesh from over half the year for purely spiritual reasons. So many of their writings on fasting might be relevant.

Nice suggestion. Here's the link in clickable form:

That's pretty cool that they let you download the whole thing.
I was thinking Eastern as in Asia
... but honestly, I think all religions (or similar philosophies) have pieces I can learn from. Most of them have shared fundamental ideas. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll check them out.

More ideas are welcome, too

Try OAHSPE. http://www.sacred-texts.com/oah/oah/oah00.htm. It's very spiritual and vegan friendly too.

Some nice quotes (from a variety of faiths and backgrounds) My favorites from St. Basil are here too!

The body which is burdened with meat is afflicted with diseases. A moderate way of living makes the body healthier and stronger and cuts off the root of evil. The stream of meat darkens the light of the spirit. One can hardly have virtue if one enjoys meat and feasts. -Basil

The text you pointed to freaks me out, no offense to you Capstan. I do like the host site--all sorts of different "sacred texts." This is the homepage:

I just looked at that page, what is it that freaks you out?
I just downloaded the World Peace Diet. Thank you for the link! I hope it's good. I plan on donating via their web site if so.
