Hi my name is Lauren I am 18 and I became a vegetarian at age 11 but still ate fish. As of 4 months ago, I began my transition to becoming a full-fledged vegan and although it required a lot of self-control, my efforts were only made easier by watching Food Matters, Forks Over Knives, Gary Yourofsky's speech, and doing hours upon hours of research on google regarding my new diet change. Needless to say I am extremely happy with my decision and am reaping all the benefits, but can't help but to want to share this happiness and peace with others by educating them. As many of you also experience, this leads to a lot of controversy with my friends and family, and I get a hard time from a lot of people. That is why I am SOO happy to have found this vegetarian forum, to receive direct and indirect encouragement, and to encourage others. It's nice to see how many people share similar viewpoints as me

Hi Lauren . Welcome. I'm mom to an 18 year old vegan who influenced his father and me to become vegan. I respect those of you who come to the mature choice of veganism at a young age.

I wish I had good tips about educating others. The truth of what they eat and where it comes from is so awful, I just think the denial makes it difficult to get through.

I also grew up eating fish but not meat, but of course I was not a proper vegetarian... A person who eats fish but not meat is called a pescetarian.
