I've noticed that all of my old favorite fake meats (boca sausages, chik patties...) have egg whites!!! I would really like something to munch when I get a craving for something that tastes junky... Anyone know of any brands of vegan fake meat?

Gardenburger Riblets are vegan, as are Boca Burger Vegan Originals. Boca Crumbles are vegan, and the Yves Crumbles are okay, too.

(Speaking of Yves, I love their little refrigerated meals...the lasagne one, especially.)

I think the Gardenburger website lists their products that are vegan, and so does the Boca.

Oh, and Amy's Burgers. I think some of them are okay, too.

I know some people don't like to support Boca 'cause they're owned by Philip Morris now, but I really enjoy the vegan original patties and I haven't found another type of veggieburger that I enjoy as much. ^^;;

Thank you!! I love veggie meats and I was greatly dismayed when I discovered their non-vegan-ness. I'll try some of your suggestions.

Gardenburger makes some good ones...their "chicken" flame grill is vegan, and very excellent - I don't like the burger style one personally, but that's just me. And their sausages are good too.

Gimmie Lean Sausage is vegan and is so good.

Gimmie Lean Beef is nasty.

Lightlife's Smart Bacon and Smart Dogs are vegan. Mark loves the bacon and we both like the hot dogs.

Soy Not Dogs are pretty good.

Soyrizo is tasty.

Lightlife's Soy Tempeh is really good.

Yves Ground Round is good and I also like Vegan Bocas.

These are the ones I have tried and I need to try the Gardenburger Riblets.

I would really like to find a vegan Polish-style sausage. The Boca "smoked sausage" was my favorite ... until I became vegan.

Well I'll save you the time & money - Turtle Island's Kielbasa suck (turtle island = tofurkey). it cost me $4 for 4 sausages and they were *dry* and bland (even while swimming in sauerkraut!!). bummer...

Are there any good letters out there requesting Boca, Morningstar, and the rest to USE EGG REPLACER OR ANOTHER BINDER in their fake meat patties!! I cannot think of any good reason to avoid making them full vegan. I do often have trouble finding the vegan patties (I'm not in a big city or suburb). If not, perhaps I'll draft one and post it.

It seems to me that there are a good amount of Lightlife products that are vegan, but I'm not sure since I only get the bacon and the tofupups that they make. Their site is www.lightlife.com and they have the ingredients listed for their products.

One hint: the lightlife veggie grill-ready brats have egg whites in them.

Let me save you some time and money, I've wasted a lot of money on fake meats and have found the majority of them to be incredibly lacking in flavor.

Lightlife chicken cutlets suck, so do gardenburger riblets (the supposedly smokey flavor messes it up even more imo)

Tofupups are bland as well, but tomorrow i am going to experiment and see if I can spice hem up somehow.

The best vegan fake meats i have found were the asian types, but I have only seen them here in nyc. TVP is great too, b/c it is so versatile. Right now I am kinda finished w/ fake meat b/c like u said, the decent ones aren't vegan.
