I never really peruse that section because I figure most of the items contain dairy, and I don't feel like reading ingredients for everything they have. Does anyone know of some delicious vegan items in their bakery?

WF items can vary widely from region to region, so I'd take the 2 minutes to check the ingredients.

Each of the stores I've been to had the self-serve section items labelled as vegan if they were such.

I just went to whole foods for the first time (don't have one near me- I'm on vacation) the other day. I didn't check out their baked foods though... I was only stopping their to waste time before Sublime opend...

Anyhow, all of that to say this: I want a WF near me! I know I have two semi-locally owned natural grocery stores near me, but WF is like 50c to $1 cheaper per item! That's a lot of money when your buying food for a whole week at a time! And they sell really awsome name brand vegan chocolate... yum!

Thats it. Sorry I couldn't help.

In the bakery department at the Whole Foods I've been to there are freshly made vegan muffins and cookies -- and scones too, I think but I don't care for scones so I don't remember. I am sure there are fresh baked breads that are vegan as well...I know that WF's packaged sandwich bread is vegan. They also make vegan cakes upon request.

Mine does. They have really fabulous cakes, muffins and cookies. They even have the cakes cut up in the refrigerator so you can take a piece instead of a whole cake.

I'm a big fan of the vegan snickerdoodles and vegan gingersnaps. The vegan apple spice muffin is good, and I'm really not much of an cooked apple guy. Those are the only vegan baked goods I'm familiar with from WF.

(would it be a jerk thing to do to brag about the bad-ass local vegan bakery?)

Only if you let Portlanders do the same:

Black Sheep Bakery.

Sweet Pea Baking

Buddha Belly Bakery

Our WFM has a lot of vegan baked goods as well - cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, breads... you just have to look at the signs (most of them will say vegan on them). Just go and look!

I suppose I should check them out again. I had a "vegan chocolate cake" slice at Whole Foods once that was horrid (they used 10 pounds of frosting to make up for no taste in the cake). That was more than 2 years ago. I should look again.

Check out Stark Sisters Granola, sweetened with maple syrup, in their bulk bins. Not in every Whole Foods. Made a cobbler with mine this morning.

It was the greatest thing I have ever seen. I could have spent days in there.

Over here they have a Vegan Parfait which is DELICIOUS, plus a chocolate cake which isn't labeled specifically vegan, but the ingredients check out.
