I want to make this list for people to see, as there are not that many movies on the subject, and while there are no dedicated TV shows (besides Whale Wars), some episodes are focused on animal rights. Please note that all the films may sort of make fun of animal rights (South Park ect.), but I think it is OK, so I am putting it here. Also, I haven't seen all of them.

Movies

Bold Native
If A Tree Falls (Not out yet)
Behind the Mask
Erin Brokovich (More on the Environment)
Your Mommy Kills Animals
The Cove
Babe
Chicken Run
Fast Food Nation
Free Willy
Forks Over Knives
Earthlings
Legally Blonde 2

TV

NUMB3RS
Scorched-Season 2
Family Guy
Dog Gone-Season 8
South Park
Fun With Veal-Season 6
D**che and Turd Season 8

Please list any more you know of!

The Goode Family!

It was an amazing but short lived show about a vegan family in Texas, made by Mike Judge the guy who did Office Space and King of the Hill. I still miss it

They even had an episode where the ALF tries to release poodles back into the wild

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Goode_Family

Yes! Sorry, Adam, I'd totally seen this show (all the episodes are on YouTube!), but I just didn't think of it when you sent me the link to this thread. It's mildly funny, and fun to watch, so yeah, people should check it out. When you need something light and fun...

http://www.youtube.com/user/thegoodefamily5

I think maybe it's just that no one can think of anything else to add, haha.

Bones has a couple episodes that focus around the animal exploitation area. One about chickens and another one with pigs (where Temperance becomes vegetarian. And I don't remember if it's the same episode or not, but one where Angela wants to raise money to sponsor a piggy).

The Simpsons have had some episodes that touch on it. American Dad also had an episode about chickens.

Peaceable Kingdom. However, there was a falling out between Tribe of Heart and Farm Sanctuary, and they redid the movie (they cut out all or most of the parts with Gene Baur/Farm Sanctuary in it). I've only seen the original, so I don't know how it's pieced together now. For sure in the AR area.

Charlottes Web definitely has a bit of AR to it.

Shark Tale a tiny bit (Fish are friends, not food!).

I've never seen this one, but Twelve Monkeys. Brad Pitt is a mental patient and also very AR.

Meat Is Murder, But Murder Is Also Murder is the name of the episode in Psych in season 2 having to do a little with animal rights.

That reminds me of a conversation Shawn and Lassie have in an episode last season. Shawn: "Let's hug it out." Lassie: "I'd rather fall in love with a vegan." Not really on the positive side, but it was funny. There are a couple references about vegans or veganism throughout the show. Like the opening flashback on the episode with the guy who dies on his plane. That one also isn't on the positive side of veganism, but still kinda funny.

Sam Manson on Danny Phantom is a strict ultra-recyclo vegetarian and animal rights orientated. There are a couple episodes on the AR side of things because of her. Like the very first one, and the Purpleback Gorilla one.

I've not heard of this falling out, wonder what happened there. Now I'm curious...

It's because Farm Sanctuary, Mercy for Animals, HSUS and many other organizations/people (some were farming organizations or farmers themselves), became a part of a coalition in Ohio to ban and phase out slaughter of downed animals, inhumane euthanasia, and extreme confinement (veal crates, batter cages, gestation crates, etc.).

There was an event during that time to support "humane farms" that was held, sponsored and attended by a bunch of groups/businesses/citizens, that served animals and animal products - but Farm Sanctuary was not one that attended, sponsored, or promoted the event. They were in support of the banning of cruel methods.

TOH take on things is to ban the killing outright, not joining forces with groups that do the exact opposite of what you do (killing animals/rescuing animals), while FS, MFA, COK, etc., are in it for short and long term change: stop the cruel methods being used and educating people about it, as well as better choices (i.e. veg*nism)

The video TOH released: http://vimeo.com/13613159 http://challengeoppression.com/2010/...ane-societies/
Farm Sanctuary's response to the video: http://www.tribeofheart.org/pdf/fsstatement.pdf
Then TOH's response to it all: http://www.humanemyth.org/silencingthelambsresponse.htm

Thanks for the links!

I'm watching right now. This is a bit of a disappointment, as I've been wanting to work with Farm Sanctuary for awhile now. Unlike PeTA, the SPCA, etc. they seemed to be an organization that I could completely get behind, that stood completely for what I believe in. I'm open to people's attempts to convince me that advocating welfare reform is a useful thing, and I know many of the people working in these efforts genuinely respect animals' rights and are just working in the way they think strategically best, but I just disagree with them on that point: I think it's best to talk about abolition, and to fight specifically for that. I can't play politician: I can't fight for something that is a compromise of what I believe in, for the small amount of change that someone deems is possible at this time and place. But maybe that's just me... Not saying I wouldn't work with Farm Sanctuary based on this, but seeing this bothers me. I think I'm with Tribe of Heart on this one.

"[What] message [is] sent to the public when sanctuaries and other animal advocacy organizations with a public commitment to veganism and/or animal rights join a coalition that includes companies that use and kill animals, a coalition which clearly validates this exploitation as "humane" by way of its very name: Ohioans for Humane Farms[?]"

Indeed, what message does it send? This is not okay, Farm Sanctuary.
