Howdy.

I love the taste of Ovaltine, but as it's made from milk and the like, it's getting the boot. So, I was wondering if anyone knew of something vegan that tasted similiar. It doesn't even have to be chalk-full of vitamins like Ovaltine. All I'm looking for is that malt-ish taste to indulge myself in. ^^

For those who don't know what Ovaltine is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ovaltine

http://www.ovaltine.co.uk/

Not really on topic, but I absolutely HATE those Ovaltine commercials!

EDIT: I've never had Ovaltine. What is the texture like?

Just hunt round the aisle(sp?) in the supermarket that has all the hot chocolate stuff for one without milk/whey powder then add soymilk instead of milk.

Ovaltine is a thick chocolate milk drink that has a lot of vitamins. It comes in powdered form and you add it to milk.

You don't have to add milk. The kind I prefer actually only requires you to add boiling water to the powder. It's just that it's uses milk as an ingredient.

Thanks for the suggestions, y'all. Looks like I have a little supermarket searching ahead of me.

I saw malt flavored soymilk at the asian market. Vitasoy made it. I wonder if that would be similar.

i reckon if you bought some of this and stirred a bit of it into some hot soya milk, it'd taste reeaaaallly similar.

not that i've tried it, but still, its probably worth a go for 89p a jar. holland and barrett or your other local healthfood shop should have this stuff.

ovaltine has cocoa in it as well as malt extract, so you might wanna use chocolate soyamilk, or put some cocoa powder in it too.

alternatively, you could buy powdered rice/soya milk, and powdered malt extract, and caster sugar, and concoct your own special blend to keep in a jar and add water too.
