This weeks interviewee is Sleepydvdr!!

The week will be from June 12 to the 19th.

Interview Guidelines:

To be next week's interviewee, you must participate in this week's thread.
Please keep VB rules in mind when you post.
The interviewee can pass on any question if they'd like.
You can decline if you are picked to be the next interviewee.

Have fun!

Here are some basics to get you started!:

-Real first name (if you are comfortable sharing):
Josh.

-Age
38.

-Sex/Gender Identity
Male.

-Relationship status
Single and loving it (ahh... the freedom!). *looks around and feels all giddy*

-Location (as specific as you are comfortable being)
South Carolina. Originally from Charlotte, but that city blows now. It used to be nice, but now the people are shallow, the city is over crowded and the government rips off taxpayers by building crap that people don't want and throw tacky statues everywhere. SC is like Charlotte was about 20 years ago. I like SC much better.

-Religious beliefs (or lack thereof)
Not religious.

-Political leanings
Lean towards the right, but I hate politics. Let's not talk about politics though. It always turns into a debate and honestly, I don't care enough about the subject to spend any time thinking about it.

-Are you a vegetarian or vegan (or something else)?
Vegan.

-What is the meaning behind your username?
It was one I picked when trying to sign up for a website and everything was taken. I was sleepy and had a stack of DVD-Rs in front of me and... voila - I came up with a username that hasn't stopped me from signing up for a website since.

-Have you ever met anyone famous?
The Dixie Chicks! Got their autographs, too.

-Do you live with any companion animals?
No, they shed and poop too much. I have trouble living with myself, much less any animals making the situation worse.

-Where is your favorite place that you have visited?
I have been vacationing at Wilmington for years. I have lots of good memories there. I guess that would be my favorite. This wasn't asked, but my least favorite place would be Nevada. I lived there when I was a kid and the place was Hell on Earth! Hot as hell, that is.

-What do you enjoy most about being veg*n?
I have opened up my palette to lots of new cuisines I would never have tried before going veg. I used to be very closed minded about trying new foods. Now, I look forward to it (as long as it's vegan).

-With whom would you most love to have dinner?
Honestly, I would like to meet the last Star Of The Week, I Heart Corey Haim. We have been talking for years now and meeting her would be awesome. She's nuts, in case you didn't know. But I like that. I'm a little on the nutty side myself.

-Do you have any secret talents?
If I do, it's so secretive that I don't even know about them. I'm good at carpentry, computers and drawing. That's a good set of skill, right?

-What dish/recipe can you make that knocks people's socks off?
My award winning Spicy Black Bean & Red Bell Pepper Chili*.

*Josh's Spicy Black Bean & Red Bell Pepper Chili has not won any awards.

-What's your favorite restaurant?
Favorite? The Peaceful Dragon from Charlotte, NC (no longer in business). But of the ones still around would be The Boba House in Greensboro NC. It is pretty awesome. My friends have been taking me there for my birthday for years. Also awesome are Rosetta's Kitchen in Asheville and Vegetarian Restaurant by Hakin in Miami.

-What do you do to cheer yourself up when you're feeling blue?
Shot of vodka, a sci-fi movie and a bowl of popcorn. Nothing more uplifting than that combination. A comedy or horror movie can be a good substitute. But no dramas. Dramas do not get you out of feeling blue. The make it worse.

-What's your biggest cooking/baking disaster?
Deep frying falafel! Two times, it disintegrated into a mess into the oil and became gloop. But then there's the other time when I made seitan in the oven and wrapped it in tin foil and it exploded (yes, it exploded and blew the oven door wide open!).

-What's the one food/product, that you'd love to "veg*nize"?
I guess the only thing that hasn't been veganized is steak. Yes, we have steak strips and they are good. But no steak that can be thrown on the grill like a real steak. I bet it has already been done. They are just holding out on us for marketing purposes...

Bring on the questions, home-slices!

If somebody gives you grief over your vegan diet, do you have a clever and witty response?

I rarely read books. The last novel I read was Hannibal (around 2001) and The China Study (about 2 years ago).

Nope, never even heard of it. I'll look it up in a little while.

Acutally, I had run out to the store to pick up something. I'm glad I wasn't there when it happened. I have heard a seitan pop (but didn't blow open the door). I thought someone had fired a shotgun or something. It's an easy way to have a heart attack.

The Big Bang, of course. I guess a collapsing red giant would be neat, too.

It was something that Diana (from VB) said. She said it would be more humane to animals to eat meat but give up dairy & eggs than to be vegetarian. I pondered on that for days and decided to go vegan.

Not really. Just squirrels who are trying to commit suicide by running out in front of my car, but I won't let them.

Night owl by nature but early bird because I have to.

No. Surprisingly, no one ever has. Except my boss, but he's an ***. He gives everyone grief about everything.

Flintstones vitamins. They taste like candy. But really, my favorite is Vitamin Code because it's raw whole foods.

The Simpsons are my favorite, but Southpark is funnier, usually. It's hard to say which is the funniest because Family Guy is consistently funny (and so is The Cleveland Show), but Southpark has had a few no-so-funny episodes. Matt & Trey breeze through some too quickly.

I can. I had a hard time learning how to when I was a kid, but with a lot of practice, I can now. I can also do a bird call / whistle with my hands.

Yes. When I was in elementary school and they got their first computer, they pulled me out of class to help them with it. When I was 10, I got my first computer and taught myself to write simple programs in BASIC.

I have 3 sisters. The oldest is most like me - sensible. I have only me the middle sister a couple times and she doesn't stay in contact with us. The youngest sister (still 10 years older than me) is nutty and always has drama and problems.

Yes. I drive to Charlotte (about 35 miles) every Sunday to eat lunch with them.

The Star Trek movies are definitely some of my favorites. Also, the Planet Of The Apes from 2001, Terminator series, Donnie Darko, and Back To The Future (I have probably watched that series the most of all of them).

I have not watched it. I saw the Serenity movie and it was pretty good. I plan to watch it someday along with Buffy (haven't seen any of them).

Thank you. I haven't reviewed much lately. There are a few things I could easily recommend: Back To Nature's Madagascar Vanilla Wafers, Almond Dream's Lil Dreamers (mini ice cream sandwiches), Alexa's Beer Battered Onion Rings, Amy's Rice Macaroni and Non-Dairy Cheese (the cheese is by Daiya), Gardien's Veggie Burgers (and all other Gardien products), Leahy Garden Cheese Flavored Sauce (this stuff is fabulous! It makes incredible mac-n-cheese).

To read minds. With that, you can tell if someone else is insane, you have the upper hand on negotiating, and you will know exactly what to say to get your way.

Just one? I would have to be cumin.

If I didn't worry about nutrition or getting fat, it would be: 1- veggie pizza, 2 - a sub with LightLife turkey and lettuce/tomato/Vegenaise, 3 - falafel in pita bread with lettuce/tomato/pickes/hummus, 4 - veggie burger with Gardien's patties, 5 - "steak" fajitas made with Trader Joe's imitation steak strips.

Autumn. I love it when it starts cooling down.

I like swimming. I prefer the beach. I'm always the one who goes way far out in the water. I never see anyone out as far as me.

No. The Loch Ness Monster told me he's not real.

I once lived in a townhouse that was built in the 20s/30s.

I learned to swim when I was 12. I almost drowned when I was 6, so I was afraid of the water for many years. I learned to ride a bike when I was 13. Tie my shoes, I was about 6. I even remember when I got it right for the first time. I was proud of myself.
