Next up is *AHIMSA*!
The week is from February 28th until the new thread on March 7th.

Interview Guidelines:

Please only ask a few questions at a time, so others get a chance to ask some, and so the current interviewee does not get overwhelmed.

In order to become next weeks victim, you must participate in the threads. The current weeks interviewee will then select someone who contributed to their thread to be the star for next week.

Please keep VB rules in mind when you post. Keep it PG-13 or above, classy, and fun. No spamming, trolling, or anything you know you should not be doing.

If the current interviewee would like to pass on answering a question for whatever reason, that is A-OK. We want these to be fun to participate in, not uncomfortable or upsetting.

If you are chosen for the next week and you would rather not be interviewed for any reason, you can decline.

Have fun everyone!

Quote:

-Sex/Gender Identity?
Female, Im a woman. I fall in love with people, not whats in their pants, uh, actually thats not true, I fall in love with the person AND whats in their pants! Sometimes they are males, sometimes they are females...

-Relationship status?
SINGLE!!!

-Location (as specific as you are comfortable being)?
San Diego, California, USA.

-Religious beliefs (or lack thereof)?
Im a Tantric Shamanatrix! I combine Spiritual beliefs and practices with Humanism and sensibility. I believe in being good to others for the sake of being good and in sharing deep and meaningful moments often. Buddhism, Hinduism and Native American practices as well as more esoteric, ritualistic practices are dear to me.

-Are you a vegetarian or vegan (or something else)?
I am so tired of the rhetoric, the dogma, the labels (yes, I realize they are necessary) and am a reformed Vegangelist, so like to lead by principle and example rather than a title.
Bottom line is this: I eat a plant-based diet, buy cruelty-free household, clothing and body products and tow the vegan line, if you MUST know.
Then again, its pretty obvious, I think, to anyone who reads what I post.

-What is the meaning behind your username?
Ahimsa is the practice of no harm. It means kindness, goodness and non-violence towards all living things. It is a concept embraced in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
Lofty goal, right? Well, if I dont have my aspirations, what have I got?

-Have you ever met anyone famous?
Yes, so many! Martin Sheen once kissed me on Easter Sunday in Los Angeles in a Catholic Church! I cant mention too many others, as it was in a professional setting where it would be inappropriate to disclose their identity. I have met most of the big vegan stars though and many of the Raw Food superstars too. I also have met the creators of such fine foods as Vegenaise, Cheezly and more!

-Do you live with any companion animals?
No. A lovely cat shared her life with my daughter and I for 13 years and we miss her so.

-Do you live with any companion humans?
Yes, my daughter and her girlfriend, at the moment. I had another teen that was in need of a home living with us last year until January of this year too. Then there was the friend who needed a place to stay for a few monthsat this time, its just us Grrrrrrrrls though!

-Where is your favorite place that you have visited?

I have a difficult time choosing just one. I love travel! I love San Francisco, Berkeley, Oregon, New York and Vancouver for a variety of reasons. I want to travel as many places as I am able.

-What do you enjoy most about being veg*n?
I enjoy feeling good about the choices I make with my dollars, the ethics behind my choices, the environmental sensibility of these choices, the healthfulness of it all, and knowing Im not eating animals helps me feel more Spiritually connected to life, more alive.

The best part, however, is the FOOD. I love the variety, the spices, the flavors, textures and possibilities I explore, share and celebrate within a plant-based diet.

-With whom would you most love to have dinner?
I would most like to have dinner with loved ones who have passedmy brother Joel, My Tutu and others I have never met from my family. I have a VERY SMALL family of living relatives and would like to connect to my roots more deeply.

-Do you have any secret talents?
Secret? No, dont think soIve talked about most of the things I like to do on VB over the last 7 or so years! Ask if ya wanna know more, I'm not shy.

-What do you do to cheer yourself up when you're feeling blue? One thing that works to cheer me up is to do good for others. I love volunteering. I volunteer a LOT, for a variety of organizations. A fresh perspective, being of service, assisting others and seeing the difference you can make really can lift your Spirits! Everyone wins when you volunteer.

Leafy green? Kale and rapini are top favorites. I like them with extra virgin coconut oil, caramelized onions and garlic, cayenne, lemon juice, umeboshi vinegar and nutritional yeast. Honestly, I like ANY vegetable that way!

Okay, I'll stick to the rules on this one and pick ONE song!

Dead Can Dance, The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove is an all time favorite. When I hear it, I MUST stop and sing every word and often bellydance to it too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z9Z25_hF8I

I love most types of music; the thread that connects them all is an interesting blend of beats, good, solid, melodic vocals and usually meaningful lyrics. I love Trip-Hop, World, Spiritual, GOOD Hip Hop/Rap (not mainstream drivel), Rock, Blues and OLD SCHOOL Country like Patsy Cline. Modern country? NO. No, no, no! However, if someone would like to help me expand my horizons with something GOOD in newer Country, please feel free to enlighten me.

Some examples of favorite artists are Tori Amos (anything up to and before Strange Little Girls and NOT after), David Bowie, The Doors, Tricky, Martina Topley-Bird, Latyrx, Dialated Peoples, Mc Solaar, The Gathering, Bauhaus, Zero 7, Massive Attack, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Natacha Atlas, Dead Can Dance, Sia, Bonobo, Quantic, Joan Osborne, Snatum Kaur, Jai Uttal, Howlin' Wolf, Whistlin' Alex Moore, Issac Hayes and more...I really could go on and ON.

Quote:

Thanks! You're a wonderful musician yourself. I am primarily a vocalist and singer. I can play a variety of percussion and instruments (self taught) more for rhythm and ambient sound. I was in an all girls Rock Cover band, I was in an electronica Kirtan group, a choir, I've been part of performance art pieces where I provided vocals and lyrics live with DJs and musicians. I love music and being part of the creative process.

Quote:

It was a fun night! I was getting ready to Emcee a holiday benefit party at a local gay club. Naturally, this meant I had to drag it up! Out came the wigs, the faux fur, the tight red sweater dress, the lipstick (vegan of course) and the false lashes. I was a bit nervous and was so happy when it turned out to be a success! I like the picture because it symbolizes me overcoming fears, challenging norms, doing good for others and being FABULOUS all at once. I'm very big on multitasking.

Quote:

I would paint a sensory experience for you, allowing you to be part of the art. You would enter a room lit with candles, sweetly spicy incense and opulent pillows surrounded by batik printed cloth, diaphanous and bright at once. You would be greeted with a direct eye gaze and a warm, slow embrace then led to the comfortable relaxation area where you would be invited to remove your shoes, recline and focus on your breath. A plate of juicy fruits and rich treats are available to you and you begin to enjoy them, the flavors consuming you with their lusciousness. You become aware of a familiar sound, as your favorite music plays and you are excited and comforted at once by all which surrounds you. The next thing you know, your phone starts ringing incessantly and you remember that you had only a short time to enjoy this space before moving on to the next task for the day. Closing your eyes, taking a deep breath, the sweet taste of the fruit still on your tongue, the lull of the music still in your ears and the caress of the cushions still surrounding you, you stand up, put your shoes back on and walk out into the harsh light of day, the crowd, the press of days and, bracing yourself, you open your eyes slowly.

Whats your plans for Spring and upcoming summer months?

I am taking my daughter to the local monastery for a couple of retreats. We are also going to the Natural Products Expo http://www.expowest.com/ew11/public/enter.aspx

I also plan on getting into the OCEAN this summer and on continuing to be more physically active in fun ways. I'll continue my various volunteer jobs and travel anywhere I'm asked and it works out!

Quote:

Your LAP, of course, Seven! Barring that, hmmmm...I'd like to be in nature with my daughter and Thich Nhat Hanh for those last 2 hours. Swimming in warm water, laughing and playing like children under the moonlight would be my choice.

If I had to tattoo a word on my forehead other than my name or Ahimsa ( such choices!) it would be in the invisible ink that only showed under blacklight and it would be حَبيبي (Habibi) which means 'Beloved'.

Quote:

I was born in an area of San Diego, California! Have always lived here. I think I was quite a likable child. I was quiet, introspective and thoughtful (as in a thinker), shy, obedient, small, curious and not bossy, well-mannered and sweet (seriously!). How much of this was natural temperament and how much was warped family dynamics, I'll never know.

I have to say Indian, specifically South Indian. Honorable mentions go to Thai, Ethiopian, Lebanese and Persian! I make fusion food a lot.
