I saw the original Noferatu from the 20's and I was kind of disappointed. From what he looks like I always thought it would be scarier. Maybe people scared easier back then??

The Hunger, with David Bowe, Catherine Denevue and Susan Sarandon is probably the best ever made. (And a cameo of goth god Peter Murphy howling "Bela Legosi is dead, undead-undead-undead" back when goth rock was good. Unfortunately this singular event probably trigged the transformation of the genre from good Rock and Roll to a bunch of whiteface poseurs pretending to be vampires. But oh boy do I dirgress!)

whatever you do... whatEVER you do.. do not see "shadow of a vampire" it's like the story of the making of the original dracula film, and it's AWFUL

we got our money back on the rental, it was so bad.

my bf is particularly fond of John Carpenter's Vampires, and all 3 Dusk til Dawn movies. personally i liked Dracula 2000 though it wasn't as scary as it could've been, it went more into the religious theories behind Dracula's existence and stuff.. and Queen of the Damned is actually quite good.

and of course, there's the Lost Boys. 80's vamps with big hair and studded leather jackets. if you can tune out the bad acting and makeup, it's good. Kiefer Sutherland

I actually rented Nosferatu, not the original, a 1979 german version, i thought it was the original when i first got it cause it had the original cover on it, but i was tricked, maybe i should read the back more often. oops. Anyway, i dug it for the most part.

I wonder if it follows the same storyline as the original. I would think so, but maybe I should check it out.

oh my god, 'shadow of the vampire' was a GREAT movie. it's about the making of 'nosferatu', NOT the original 'dracula'. but you have to 'get it'. it's not your traditional blood, guts and gore kinda vampire flick...it's more psychological. willem defoe is amazing.

"near dark" is also one of my favourites; i remember it came out right around the time of "the lost boys" and it was totally overshadowed by the big names in "the lost boys" but was in fact the superior of the two movies.

"kiss of the vampire".

john carpenter's "vampire" sucked ass. imo.

I think the point of "Shadow of the Vampire" was to be a black commedy. I mean, what do you expect from a movie that starts from the premise of a filmmaker introducing an actual vampire as the ultimate method actor.

lol ok so apparantly it's one of those artsy things i don't 'get'. my bf hated it so much that when i see that it's on tv i go "hey, come here quick, your favourite movie is on!!!" to which he usually throws a cushion at me.
