A typing error or a (sick) joke.

There are three main diets

1-\tOmni: eats everything, vegetables and meat, eggs, no restrictions on the use of animal products

2-\tVegetarian: doesnt eat meat, but no other restrictions on the use of animal products.

3-\tVegan: doesnt eat anything that contains animal products.

There are different grades in 2 and 3.

Some people will say your not a Vegan when you wear leather shoes or a wool sweater.

I know your new here and probably what we call a omni. People here will not attack you on that, but we will try to let you understand why we choose not to be omni.

What is your main interest in Veg*n? (veg*n is short for vegetarian and or Vegan)

People are often drawn to veg*n because of compassion with animals or health issues.

Some people do it for ethical reasons.

English is not my first language, and I'm short on time now.

I think this is useful for you:

http://www.vegansociety.com/html/whyvegan/whyhome.html

I do it for all the reasons except for spiritual ones.

Edited: for people who never new these reasons it can be shocking or hard to believe.

Here is a good site with answers to all of your questions. The questions you are asking have been asked by many people before you.

http://ar.vegnews.org/

Sure we do. Just like we drive cars naturally; our feet are just the right size and shape for the peddles, and our hands have adapted to the steering wheel quite well, and our arms are able to reach all controls easily. Not to mention that our height has enabled us to see out of the windscreen.

Even though Steve is "gone", I would like to say more on this. Most veg*n advocates when asked this question get sidetracked into an argument about how different our bodies are from typical omnivores and carnivores. I think this is irrelevent for two reasons.

1)Who knows to what degree humans have stopped evolving, but cave people may have done any number things, but they lived in a different environment, and did not live long enough to develop long term diseases from meat eating to the degree they ate meat. Furthermore, I think it is pretty clear that at least in what we do know, humans are adaptable with their diets, and that is part of our success. People have lived successfully in all kinds of climates and all kinds of diets. Lastly, evolution is effected mostly (if not exclusively) by environment and behaviors that occur before the genes are passed on at reproduction. That further means that any behavior that does not have a negative consequence until long, long after reproduction is less likely to be weeded out. Some even speculate that the strategy of the human was to "live fast, die young." so to speak. That is not acceptable to our culture now.

2) the real reason this is irrelevent is that since when do we let what cave people did or animals do determine our moralitiy? Cave people's habits may be relevent to health arguments about the veg diet, but not to the moral ones.

We do not know, and will never know, what diet is the absolutely "perfect" diet. Especially since it is probably different for different people. However, we do know generally what is healthy to people, and that most if not all can live well if not better on a vegan or mostly vegan diet. Even if it is not the "perfect" diet, or the one we evolved with, there are compelling moral reasons to adopt this diet.

Ahahahahaha.

I wanted to add, for the benefit of the non-Steves, that when asked, point blanc, "why don't you eat animals," it can be fun to answer "I don't know; why don't I eat you?"

If your victim replies "because if you tried, you'd be sorry fella," perhaps you could try responding "Well, ok, if that's how you feel, I'll go eat someone else."

I have always used a similar response to the one from soilman's above. It goes someting like this:

Q: Why don't you eat animals?

A: For the same reason you don't.

Q: I don't?? Whaddya mean?

A: Well, you don't eat human flesh, do you?

Then the ball always remains in their court since they now have to justify the difference between killing a human being for food vs. killing an animal for food.

If they invoke intelligence, reason, and other characteristics of humanity, then I ask them why they don't enjoy barbecued human spare ribs from mental retards with IQ lower than chimps.

That really gets them ;-).
