Well, I have also gone through these kinds of interogations if you will and they will stop saying these things to you, believe it or not.<br><br>
I also felt like it was an attack on my beliefs and people in general question and try to tear down what they don't understand. It is trying and they will get tired of arguing with you.<br><br>
My first months of veganism were hard for me because I would get this every day from my friends and I felt alienated from them until I realized why they said the things they did....<br><br>
They wanted the old me, they didn't understand me not eating meat/cheese/dairy/honey/sugar.....<br><br>
And I think they felt a little uncomfortable.<br><br>
Give them time to adjust and they will treat you like they did before you were a vegan and expect some teasing once in a while. Shannon

Don't worry... It's hard at first, but soon the beautiful reality of you being better than all of your friends will sink in and their ignorance will mostly be simply water off your back...

i completely undestand your frustration, i think we pretty much all do, but telling them they are stupid will not help anything. rational discussion doesnt do much either, but it hopefully keeps them less defensive than just telling them they are dumb.

<span style="color:#008000;">It's just ...the thing that pisses me off is that she knows how I feel..yet she still says those things..regardless of my feelings. Heh, and I have a right to call her stupid..::allows moment of veiwing all Dana's spelling mistakes::</span> <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/tongue3.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":p">

awww, I know exactly how you feel <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)"><br><br><br><br>
I mentioned earlier (in another thread) about my best friend launching a total attack on my beliefs. I was really hurt.<br><br><br><br>
Despite being an animal lover, and used to be more on my side, she decided to start questioning my beliefs about animal testing and vegetarianism. She ganged up with another of my friends, and together we spent an hour debating animal testing mainly - she thought of every question and comment under the sun. That torment lasted about 1 hour. The next day, my two friends had made a mental list of more tedious and provoking questions, which ended up in a very long debate, this time mainly about why In don't eat animals. They denied my argument and carried on talking blabber over me, then (since we were in the library) went and took some pro-vivisection books from the shelves and threw them under my nose. When the debate became unbearable, I just walked away -- I felt it was turning into an argument. She said she was joking all along. Either way she was playing around with my beliefs <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":(">

It is frustrating. Usually now, I just ignore peoples questions like that or just advoid those questions. Also, the longer you are veg, the eaiser. IMO anyways. All of my friends have known my dieatary choices since I have known them so its not a big deal to them. Its just how I am.

ouch, I wouldn't call ones lack of proper spelling in an instant message conversation the result of being stupid, more like careless typing. Not all of us all endowed with a fullsize keyboard or wonderful finger dexterity or a memory for the keyboard set up.<br><br><br><br>
I think one proplem here in is that maybe Dana doesn't truly understand what is going on. Maybe you can furnish her with some accurate information on how cows are treated during the milking process. Though maybe you have already done so; true she may not stop drinking milk, but if you disgust her enough, she may stop asking.<br><br><br><br>
One more thing, don't get so worked up over it, that could be another reason for her asking about it, just give her as little emotion as you can in your responses to her questions, and answer them with facts.

It can be annoying at first, but it gets funny after a while. (Not that the reality of the meat/dairy/egg industry would be funny in any way, but generally stupidity is great fun.)

michael_veggie, don't be so sad, dude! Things will get better, trust me.<br><br><br><br>
Yeah, I hate when people you know are just about as difficult as they can possibly be about the veggie thing. When it's something that obvioulsy means a lot to you (its your FOOD for gods' sake!) and they talk down to you like you don't know what the heck you're talking about, and how can you be so stupid to not eat meat.

There was only one incident I had in which somebody I knew maliciously challenged me beliefs. He talked to me and said that there was nothing wrong with the fact that animals were killed/poorly treated and that he lost all respect for me, which is fine with me, difference of opinion, I'm didn't go vegetarian to gain respect. But then he told me the only kind of meat he doesn't eat is veal because THAT'S the only cruel form of slaughter. At which point I lost all respect for his argument, since he was setting a double standard and refused to admit it. It's kind of funny, especially if you know the guy since he debates everything with some kind of gaping fallacy like that.

Maybe you must say something like this back:<br><br><br><br>
"Can you show me in the bible a sentence or something which says that we must treat the animals like we do now?"<br><br><br><br>
I haven't read the bible myself ( I am not a believer) , but I remember one thing from 'bible class', that the bible/god says that we must watch over the animals and treat them right. Something like that.
