I don't know about any of you, and your schools, as to what's popular and what's not. But in my school the BIGGEST fad is ugg boots. Today my friend and I counted walking from one class to another and we got about 60 pairs. For those of you who haven't heard of them, they are made of sheepskin and wool, made in Australia. I find this trend gross, and the shoes arn't even attractive! (in my opinion) Anyways, I really want to put an end to this trend, but without getting in anyones face for it. I was thinking about handing out leaflets, or someting like that. Any ideas?

Oh, I've seen those. They are ugly. It's annoying to see people wear them. As for handing out leaflets, they'll think it's pretty weird and probably won't pay much attention. But they may respect you for standing up for something so "seemingly" trivial.

They're probably one of the ugliest footwear I've ever seen. The boots are big at my college too. You'd think with a higher level of education they'd realize how stupid and disgusting the boots are. I don't think leafleting will work too well, you could try but I doubt anyone with Uggs is going to bother with it.

I figure the trend will die out soon like any other. I mean does anyone remember fingerboards or pogs? Hopefully Uggs go that way too.

hmm, true. But these have been a trend for years now, I mean, I wouldn't mind so much if everyone was walking around looking like a dumbass, but the fact that it's at the cost of innocent animals sickens me. I don't know what to do, because I don't want anyone to think I'm personally attacking just them for wearing the shoes, but I want people to know what they're wearing!

If you really wanted to inform people than I suppose you could leaflet but you might also want to try and make flyers and put a few up around your school. I'm not speaking from experience but it might reach a broader audience, although you run the risk of someone writing on them or taking the flyers down.

If you have a school newspaper you could try writing an article as a way of informing, hopefully, a lot of people.

It would be quite funny to see people wearing those in public. I've never known anyone to have them on outside their homes. But by all man's gods, why would you want to end a fad? It's going to destroy itself in a few months time anyway (most likely faster than you would by a long shot).

Quote:

Funny how people fail to "realize" opinions, isn't it?

Yeah, that's what I thought but it had been about 3 years since it started and people are still talking about how great they are. And though, yes it would be an opinion to call them discusting, I'm sure if everyone knew what went on the with shoes most of them would agree.

I seriously doubt it. Maybe if you were selective, but not if it involved "everyone".

uggs are a huge trend where i live. For 2-3 years I refused to buy into it and thought that they were ugg-ly. But this summer I worked at a shoe store and ended up trying a pair on. I've never worn anything as comfortable. I wear them almost everyday, they are good quality, so comfy and dont wear out. I've since gone vegan and, though I doubt that I would buy a new pair, I'm not going to stop wearing mine. I dont think that flyering will help...when you've got something this good, "animal rights" aren't going to change peoples' ways...i dont want to sound pessimistic, but its true.

Hm. I'm in Sacramento, California, and people wear them in summer here. Not often, though. I never really liked them, and they're not really that popular, it seems to me. They were big like two years ago. Maybe people are just wearing them now because it'd be a waste to buy them and stop using them right away?

Then again, at my school it's all about how many pairs of Nikes you have(and how much they cost), how low you can get your pants, and how long your "tall tee" is.

And the cartoon character backpacks - I sure am sick of those.

Oh well. To each his own.

There are tons of Uggs at my school, and have been for a few years. I thought they were adorable (and I guess I still do) but I no longer want a pair since the revelation that they're made of sheep skin. Of course, I'm not sure if this arguement would work with the general population of a high school....(unfortunately)
