Hi everyone. I joined up as I've recently decided to go vegan and want to be able to learn from those who have gone before me and know all the non-Big Mac sources of protein and how to get enough Vitamin B12 without eating a 12 egg omelet.

Look forward to seeing y'all on the forums.

I also suggest checking out some vegan cookbooks from your local library. You should be able to get them through interlibrary loan if yours doesn't have much selection. I recommend "Veganomicon", "Vegan Brunch", "Vegan Planet", and "Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker." I'm sure there are other good ones. Just try some and see what you like. Also, check out vegweb.com and theppk.com for recipes.

For the occasional junk food treat, I recommend "Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World" and "Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar."

Thanks for the welcome Poppy and Ira. Mrs. T I appreciate the articles on protein and B12. Depending on what I read if I don't compensate for the lack of either in plant diets I'll a) die a horrible death or b) do just fine. Quite a range of possibilities! Also appreciate the other book and site recommendations especially the recipe sites. This is new to me and rather than reinventing the wheel in the kitchen it will be good to start with dishes that others have refined. Once I'm into this a bit then I can start getting a bit creative.
