this may be an extremely dumb question but here goes... can tums help with bloating??

It depends on what kind you buy. You're going to want something with Simethicone in it for bloating; usually something touted for "gas relief." Regular Tums are just Calcium Carbonate, I believe. There are some Rolaids that have Simethicone in them, and some Maalox, or just plain old Gas-X chewables (swallowables have gelatine)

I have heard that a tsp of apple cider vinegar before eating is better than tums.<br><br><br><br>
Usually you have gas becasue you have not enough acid in your stomach. Tums kills the acid, so your body produces more acid--<br><br><br><br>
Bloating---> it depends what the cause is?
