Hello Everyone

My husband and I decided to start a family. I was just wonder who can give me some tips. We are not in a rush, so feeling very relaxed about it. When it happens it will happen.

I drink a complete mineral and vitamin called biostrath and had for the last 3 months.

I am not a big eater but try to eat from all the food groups every day and drink 2 soya shakes a day to add to my calories and plant proteins.

Dont drink a lot or smoke.

Is there anything else I should know being a vegetarian? I do not eat a lot of eggs or drink a lot of milk.

Just with diet? Or in the other areas as well? lol I've heard take prenatal vitamins while trying to get pregnant, but that's just basically multi vitamins. Don't drink alcohol, do exercise, and of course have sex lol. Basically when trying to get pregnant you do all the things you're supposed to do if you were already pregnant. Good luck! Don't forget to stand on your head after each 'session' (kidding of course) Oh ya also don't drink too much caffeine.

Here's a couple of links, the second one is kind of coincidentally funny since it says tofu is good to regulate ovulation

http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/family/1...o-get-pregnant

http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/healt...-get-pregnant/

http://www.helpmegetpregnant.org/foo...-get-pregnant/

They have caffeine free green tea as well it'll be marked as caffeine free if you want to try that, but i believe it's a lot less than coffee, either way you don't have to do everything perfectly lol.

You're in South Africa, right? And that is where Rooibos a.k.a. Red Bush tea comes from, right? Rooibos is naturally free of caffeine. It's my favourite tea (and I'm not trying to get pregnant )

You need more iron. And with more iron, you need to drink more water.

http://www.babycenter.com/0_iron-in-...y-diet_1468.bc

Green tea doesn't generally have a *lot* of caffeine, so you could easily do a couple of cups a day without likely affecting your fertilty (too much can keep you from ovulating). 200 mg or less is the guideline I've seen oft quoted, when we were trying to get knocked up. Studies done with women ingesting less than this per day had little/no effect on fertility. Some info about caffeine content in beverages: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/caffeine/AN01211. Don't forget to account for any significant amounts of chocolate you eat as well.

You can take prenatal vitamins (I did), but it's particular important to pay attention to folic acid (deficiencies are linked to birth defects), B12/iron (which help ovulation) and Iodine (also linked to female fertility troubles). There are some studies talking about magnesium playing a role too, but it seems a bit undecided so far. For the man, zinc is the key vitamin for sperm production. Vitamin E and Vitamin C can also help with quality (E has been shown to help poor motility, for instance). He should also be following the same basic guidelines as you...quit smoking, drink only lightly with no binges, watch his weight, etc.

One of the biggest helps is just to keep track of your cycles, including monitoring cervical mucus. If you've never tried it before, it sounds complicated and iffy, but it's the key to knowing the best day(s) to do the deed There's a slightly untended but still helpful thread here: http://www.veggieboards.com/newvb/sh...-(FAM)-thread&

I wish I had more advice, but I got pregnant and had my child all before going veg...I also didn't have to try to become pregnant I would say one of the best tips I read above was to just keep your stress level down...these things happen easier when you don't worry about it.

+1 to Folic Acid. I've been taking my basal temp every morning and using fertilityfriend.com to track ovulation. We're not actually trying right now, but it also helps me NOT try while I'm off birth control. (If you've been on BC, my midwife said to give your body 3 months off BC before you try to give your uterus a chance to build/shed linings a few times)
