Hi all!

New to Veggie Boards but not to veggie life.

I was a vegetarian (lacto-ovo) for over 8 years through the birth of my first daughter but since my second pregnancy I have been eating meat and just can't seem to get back to the healthy lifestyle I once had.....I've had another child over a year ago (my third), still need to lose some weight and deperately trying to not eat meat. I'm finding as I get older unless I eat higher amts. of protein and less carbs, I tend to hold onto to weight. I really want to try to not eat meat again but find I eat too many carbs when I go veg. Any suggestions to get myself back on track? I'm almost 39 and the metabolism ain't what it used to be!!! (neither is my sanity..............................)

HELP!!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Welcome to VB.
I can feel your pain wrt to the weight issue. My best suggestion would be to try and exercise more, and not worry as much about the food. It helps your metabolism, makes you stronger, and you generally feel better.

Hi and welcome. I'm 50, and am having the same problem.Carbs and I have never gotten along very well, especially now that the metabolism has slowed.

Take heart! You can do low carb veggie.

Most soy products are surprisingly low in carbs ( I think the veggie brugers have

around 7 grams ).

Lentils and brown rice are fairly low, and of course, anything green is perfectly

fine. I just have to force myself to stay away from taters and rice, which is

very hard.I could eat a vat of mashed potatoes in one sitting!

Some of the wheat -free bread is low carb and tastes good.

You just have to read labels;there's some pretty good stuff out there.

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone! I know it can be done (low carb - veg) just ain't easy!!!

I definitely have to get my but in gear (and out of bed in the a.m.) and exercise more! Hopefully you guys can help me get back on track!

The carbs really do me in and set me up for a bad day when I have them in the a.m.

Have a great night!
