Any suggestions for travelling?

This is NOT an area known for their "healthy vegetarian foods." Am taking a small cooler to fill up in the morning, before going on "day trips." I am thinking hummus and crackers, black beans to add to purchased salads..........?????????????????

Help!

Er, where exactly are you travelling, and for how long? I've travelled a fair bit and have never run into a problem being vegan - even while doing aid work in tribal villages in South America...!! Fruits and vegetables are your friends.

I like the idea of hummus and crackers with a salad that you've added black beans to.

Other ideas for day trip food:

* Quinoa with black beans, red onion or scallions and corn

* crunchy salad with salsa

* fruit salad with nuts added in at the last

* Hummus with celery (just about any veggie is good, but I like celery the best )

* Falafel fixings that you can put together when you arrive (pita breads, falafels, tahini sauce, julienne carrots and cucumbers, lettuce, tomato).

* Veggie Hoagie! lettuce, tomatoes, onions, jicama, chayote with veggie mayo/mustard on a fat hogie roll. I found a recipe once for a veggie sandwich that's to be pressed, but I can't seem to find that recipe again (iirc, they used either olive tapinade for the mayo or a very tangy vinaigarette).

If it's a short day trip, I'll just get some Blue Diamond almonds in the Natrual flavour (the ones with the solid green lable) or I'll get a bag of undyed pastachios. Sometimes I get both (cause ya gotta come back to home sometime ).

Hope that helps a bit.

Yeah, without knowing where you are going it's impossible to recommend. I've got tips for Sri Lanka, Southwestern USA, Eastern Europe, Scotland etc etc etc but they're all different.

Give us a hint on where you're going.

BTW I travel for my job and practically live out of hotels and restaurants and rarely have a problem finding vegan food.
