I have a friend going to southern Africa end of this year and I'm interested in meeting him in Mozambique (apparently not the best time of year to go!). For some reason I have an attraction to the country even though I know very little of it.

Has anyone been and have any tips to share? I'd like to see it with someone and now is the opportunity as I don't know anyone else who is all that interested in seeing it. I'd try and learn a little Portuguese before I went.

At the moment it's either Mozambique end of the year, or meet another friend in South America next year, or have a mini holiday within Australia mid this year. Argh!

they all sound wonderful. i haven't been to mozambique, but i have been to other parts of africa. it was beautiful and difficult in it's own way. in my exprience 'no cheese' often means 'extra cheese' btw.

Take with you or read in advance (whatever) the book by Ffyona Campbell called "One Foot Through Africa".... I have not read it but it is definately I assume a book worth noting for you! and one I intend to read at some point. I got hold of a copy from a charity shop, not to suggest that its real old though, still quite newish, all told, is the book and the story of this walk epic thru Africa.

Published in a about 1994 and underneath the map (inside the book with she on the cover) is her trail in africa in the prelogue of the book (first few pages) where it says underneath that map these words:

"Between 2nd April 1991 -and- 1st September 1993, Fyona Campbell walked every step from Cape Town (south Africa) to Tanger (Morocco), a total distance of 16,088 kilometres."
