If your pockets were as deep as Bill Gates what would you drive? A new Porsche or a seven-year-old one? Each year, Forbes magazine compiles a list of the worlds wealthiest people. Now, ForbesAutos.com gives you a look at the vehicles driven by the billionaires at the top of the 2006 list.

The cars and trucks driven by those in the Top 10 of the 2006 Forbes list was, in short, shocking. You wont find a Bugatti, Ferrari or BMW driven by these billionaires. But you will find a Lincoln, a Mazda, even a Dodge and a Ford. It seems that for the super-rich, a vehicle is seen not as a status symbol, but as a means to an end in which to get from point A to point B. Status is something that these billionaires need not prove to others. In many cases, the people on our list prefer to live inconspicuously, avoiding the limelight at all costs. This might explain why many of their vehicles cost less than your own daily driver.

I didn't see any '96 Saturnsor Saturns of any kindon that list. The billionaires aren't driving what I do, unlike the writer's assertion, "many of their vehicles cost less than your own daily driver."

If I were a billionaire, I would buy a Jetta.

Well, it is Forbes, I'm not sure we're their target market.

You're probably closer to it than I am, in age, income and gender.

Quote:

I kind of like the idea of having a driver, except I enjoy the freedom of on a whim pulling into the roadside produce stand and buying a cantalope. But then, if I were a billionaire, I would definitely hire a personal chef.

I love that book.

I agree that I see similarities between some of the billionaire's vehicles in this thread and that book.

Note that the third billionaire in that list drives a car that is older than most people's daily driver.

The fourth billionaire's vehicle is even older -- 1988.

Out of the people with "new" vehicles, I find it humorous that many hd inherited a good percentage of their wealth. (Only Ellison and Dell drive newer vehicles and didn't inherit much of their wealth).

SotallyTober, I think you might need to "tober" up some more.

The Texas Dept of Transportation is the source of the *information*, not the *income*.

Duh, lol. I was sooo tired and obviously incoherent. But, those of you who are curious, I quit drinking just a short time ago. Hardest thing I've ever done, but that's another thread. Thanks for the heads up nut.

Very true Janie. That and "Millionaire Mind" are great books.

Buffett is the epitome of the Millionaire (Billionaire in this case) next door. He still lives in the house he bought in the 50's that cost him almost $32,000.
