I would like to read some information from a credible nutritionist though. I also realize there is a big difference in what MDs say and nutritionists. I definitely value the opinion of a nutritionist over an MD when it does to diet.
you can opinion shop and get a number of responses. my nutritionists recommend meat. does that make it good for me? i can assure you that the hospitals are full of people who eat too little fiber because the foods they eat mostly are empty calories. i've never in my nursing career seen anyone suffering from "too much fiber". in fact, i don't think i've ever had a vegan patient who ate a balanced plant diet. this vs. thousands who ate the wrong foods and suffered terribly from it. it's a no brainer to me. good luck, whatever you decide.

Hi! I have been vegan for over a year and typicall get around 70 grams of fiber a day! I have no problems as long as I drink enough water. Honestly, if you're eating whole foods, you get so many vitamins that it won't matter if some get "flushed" out with the fiber.

Thanks for the input. You make valid points and I will not worry about my fiber intake to much.

It is possible to get too little protein, especially if you are on a low calorie diet. If you are an athlete, pregnant (not an issue for you, but..), or under the age of 18, your protein requirements are even higher. Here are some resources on protein intake in vegans:

The Vegan RD (Ginny Messina, RD) recommends finding your daily protein requirement (in grams) by multiplying your ideal weight (in pounds) by 0.45

More info from Jack Norris, RD, on veganhealth.org
