My sister became vegetarian a little after I did, and the rest of my family (except the littlest one, the carnivore) went mostly veg too. I recently went vegan, and my mom told me, "You know, it wouldn't be very hard to convince me to be completely vegetarian", and I think my dad feels the same way. But how can I convert her?!?! I've tried leaving leaflets around, only to get them thrown at me, and I've tried arguing, politely and not. She's so so so close to being vegetarian, so how can I get her to go the rest of the way? Help!!!

Maybe just keep telling her how proud you are of her that she's making an effort, and how even the effort makes you happy. When you make veg meals for yourself, ask if she'd like to try a bite. Be supportive of whatever she decides, and with time if she feels it's right for her, she'll convert.

I don't think you can. My husband has eaten vegetarian about 90% of the time for the past two years but won't give up meat.<br><br>
Some people will just never give it up completely. The more you pressure, the more upset they'll get.<br><br>

I think it is disrespectful when vegetarians or vegans try to "convert" their family or friends. Unless I need to or am asked, I never inform others that I am vegan. People see the way I carry myself and, of course, what I eat. They ask me health related questions and I gladly answer. However, I always tell them that they can still be healthy on a diet, consisting of white meat. After all, I used to eat meat so I am not judgmental nor am I ashamed of that fact.<br><br><br><br>
Most of my family and friends (who thought I was crazy for becoming vegetarian) are eating less meat and incorporating vegetarian meals into their diet. My cousin even became vegan. Through time, patience, gentle (not forced or "in your face") knowledge-giving and positive role modeling, Your mom will be interested in vegetarianism soon enough. With interest, the seed will grow from there.
