I need help!

Yesterday I found 3 little baby mice near my basement and found the parents dead in the wall I don't know how long the mice have been alive but their eyes are still shut and they do have fur. but they are so tiny.

I've been feeding them cow's milk on my finger, is this safe? I called a friend at the pet store and he said they would probably die but i'm trying to stay optimistic, I've grown quite fond of them. I woke up every hour last night to feed them, (very tiring but worth it if it will save their lives).

Has anyone been in a similar position? Is it safe to feed them cow's milk? Is there anything more I can do to help them live? I really want them to live!

If anyone has any tips please tell me!

TIA

I don't have any ideas other than to call a local vet (one that treats mice and rats) and see what they think. I hope the little things make it!

I did a google search (you mightwant to try that) and found this site: http://www.rmca.org/Articles/orphans.htm

I hope it helps....

thank you so much vegancherrypie! That site was very helpful! I'd like to take care of the mice all by myself but it looks like some of the supplies it mentioned on that site, might be rather expensive like the formula...]

'm going to check around and see if maybe I can find someone who can take them off my hands.

Good luck! I'm sure that your efforts would be greatly appreciated by the mice no matter what. I hope you can find a kind, responsible person to take care of them. Maybe there's a wildlife rehabilitation center around you who could take them in? I don't know if a lot take in mice but it's a thought.

Thanks again for your help Cassie!

I decided to go out and buy the formula (expensive!) and take care of them myself but unfortunatly 2 of them died and I think the last is heading that way too

They were just too small, and I searched and found that cow's milk is fatal for them, the formula is pretty icky too but at least it has the vitamins they need.

It's just so sad to see them die, at least I tried my hardest though.

I'm sad

The last one died the other day...it was the strongest one, it really wanted to live but I guess it just couldn't. I wish I knew why they died.

It's to bad they didn't get a chance at life, poor little things.

aww that's sad i imagine milk from a smaller animal like goat's milk would have been better than cow's but nothing's as good as their mother's milk unfortunately.

wonder why the parents died. maybe it was the result of disease or something, and possibly passed on to the babies. there may not have been any way to help them, you tried your best

I'm sorry, Tova. When they are that little, there really isn't all that much you can do for them. You tried your best.

Thanks for everyone's kind words.

I'm still sad over the death of those poor little mice but it's also kind of liberating as caring for them was like having triplets! They were so time-consuming, I wasn't getting anything done but I didn't really care, it was more important that I saved their lives.

Sadly Ladyfaile I think my mom (who hates mice and rats)killed the parents because she put out poison. It was weird though, the parents looked like they had been dead for a long time, they were almost only bones and all moldy...I wonder how the babies survived for so long? They were so smart though, they climbed out of a little hole in the basement wall and managed to not fall down the stairs but instead squeeze under the kitchen door and come into the kitchen where the dog found them first....it's amazing!! Very smart little things for being blind and the size of a walnut!

Anyway, now I have the can of formula....If anyone is need of Esbilac dog formula, which can also be used for smaller animals such as squirrels, please pm me and It's yours.
