When I'm bored, I read. If I don't have anything to read, I either go to the library or read my cookbooks and plan meals.

When I was younger, I'd make long lists. It was almost compulsive. I'd list what I hoped to name my children, what I would take on vacation if I were going to Lake Tahoe, or China, or where ever, I'd list how many books I'd read...etc... Now I make grocery lists!

TV always works, but kinda sucks your brain out of your head.

I also like to write, or go for a walk, or knit, or crochet or play piano.

I like to write letters to family members who don't have email (or even to those who do, but who would enjoy getting snail-mail).

Excersize is always good! Join a gym, rent a workout video, make some new friends as you run around the neighborhood!

Don't think of 'empty' time as a burden, think of it as a gift---now you have time to do something new, try something exciting, center yourself, what ever you decide!

Get crafty (can you sew or knit? I cant, but it doesnt stop me trying). Make mixed tapes. Write a letter or a novel. Read. Give your clothes/kitchen cupboards a clean out. Sort out photos (if youre like me you will have piles of photos shoved in a box). Sleep.

Cleaning drawers and cupboards out is a good idea, because then you not only get rid of your old junk, but you feel good about getting your house clean too.

Reading is my favorite thing to do as it relaxes my body and activates my brain.. but taking a nice long walk or having a good sweaty workout is great also.

Ive attempted to put mine in albums before, but usually end up just looking thru them and reminiscing.

Ah well, it still kills an hour or two anyways.

When I was recently out of college and unemployed, a friend of mine and I bought Learn to Speak Italian tapes and tried to learn Italian. We both got full-time jobs the next week, so it soon fell by the wayside, but it took up a lot of time.

Read a book.

Write a story.

Volunteer somewhere.

Learn a craft (macrame is fairly easy to learn from books and you can make some pretty nifty necklaces and bracelets).

Go play cards or scrabble or something with residents at a nursing home.

There are lots of things to do!

I think about creating new recipes and then I start cooking. For example, today I made a vegan lemon pie recipe and then I made the pie.

This only really works if you like cooking though

I visit www.bored.com or go to www.pogo.com (in the winter). I'm never really bored in the summer 'cause I'm always out doing stuff.

I'll go for a run, read a book, play on yahoo games, read other peoples journals on livejournal.com, or organizing various rooms around my apartment usually works for me too.
