I was cruisin home from karate tonight when Deep Purple's "Highway Star" came on the radio. I used to have a 68 Z28 and went street racing back in the old days. I had Highway Star painted on the hood. I used to crank up the 8 track and go crusin till the sun came up. So thats like my theme song I reckon. So what be yours?

Sad i know.. But i mine would have to be the "whatever"song by liam lynch... Me and my mate Sam started using whatever a lot this year.. just to annoy certain people.. and then 3months later theres a whatever song.. hmm.. weird.!

But nah if you asked anyone who knew my what song made them think of me it'd probably be that one..

I have many theme songs... one (or a few) for each mood... they haven't yet written a song that gets to the essence of me... except perhaps "I'm a *****"... captures the contradictions that make up me, but I'm not a huge fan of the song (it's okay, but not a fave song). I have certain songs I love to listen to at certain times...

i've got quite a few too.

two that come to mind..."new life' by the waterboys

and oh, for the love of god, i don't care if you laugh or not, but i'll say it anyway...'neverending story' (from the movie, sung by limahl).

if you listen to the lyrics, it's really an awsome song and i love it all the way around. and it has a deep rooted meaning for me.

so there.

I used to consider "Testify to Love" by the group Avalon to be my theme song, but anymore... "Smell the Color 9" by Chris Rice is one of my more recent favorites. Selected lyrics:

I can sniff

I can see

I can count up pretty high

but these faculties

aren't getting me

but my heart of faith keeps poundin'

any closer to the sky

so I know I'm doing fine

but sometimes finding You

is just like trying to

smell the color 9

now, 9's not a color

and even if it were

you can't smell a color

that's my point exactly

Did you know there is a punk/alternative/industrial version of Neverendending Story?! It's awesome! I don't remember who does it, I'll have to ask Wolf. But I love the song however it's played anyway!

As for my theme song there are a couple that come to mind, but I couldn't settle on just one. Lisa Hunter (http://lisahunter.com), an Ann Arbor local has a number of songs that totally relate to how I feel and where I'm at in my life right now and where I'm striving to be. One that always stands out for me is Faith

Faith

by lisa hunter. copyright 1998 swingsistersound, Ascap

you have been running for so long now

what are you running from, where do you want to go

a little voice inside my head said, as i went spinning out of control

i said i am following my dream, that feels dangerous

uncharted territory, the story to unfold

i am a little apprehensive that the dream wont fly, so i go hot and cold

chorus:

have a little faith in me (2x)

and if you give it some time, you will find

its easier to let your mind run free

if you have a little faith in me

an evolution, it is a rhythm, it is a story you will weave

you keep on giving but you gotta learn how to receive

you hit a dead end, you go around it,

you find a way to say that you still believe

chorus

just when youre goin down, and youre gonna drown

remember you keep listening

you lit a flame for destiny, dont be afraid

follow me

there there, a little better, like i finally could breathe

faithfully editiing those voices of disbelief

not like denial, no, you know, i just stripped down to the core

and i felt good inside, more me than i was before

chorus

Mine is "Blew" by Nirvana.

And if you wouldn't mind I would like to blew.

And if you wouldn't mind I would like to lose.

And if you wouldn't care I would like to leave.

And if you wouldn't mind I would like to breathe.

Is there another reason for your stain?

Could you believe who we knew stress and strain?

Here is another word that rhymes with shame.

You could do anything, you could do anything, you could do anything, you could do anything.

I also named the car I used to have after that song, and spray-painted it in big pink letters on the driver's door. I'd want this song played at it my funeral/cremation.

ETA: lyrics.

That's all very nice buuuuut.... what does it all boil down to in the end???

It's this IMHO:

--------------------------

In your life expect some trouble

But when you worry you make it double

Don't worry, be happy......

Cause when you worry your face will frown

And that will bring everybody down

So don't worry, be happy (now).....

----------------------------

right?

My American one is this:

The bear went over the mountain

The bear went over the mountain

The bear went over the mountain

The bear went over the mountain, to see what he could see

The bear went over the river

The bear went over the river

The bear went over the river

The bear went over the river, to see what he could see

And all that he could see

And all that he could see

And all that he could see

Was the other side of the mountain

Z28....hmm...nice baby for those days....

Genesis, from the album invisible touch...

DOMINO

The grey of evening fills the room,

No need to look outside,

To see or feel the rain.

I reach across to touch her,

But I know that she's not there.

Rain keeps running down the window pane.

Time is running out for me.

Can't you see what you are doing to me?

Can't you see what you have done?

As I try to pass another long and sleepless night,

A hundred crazy voices call my name,

As I try to pass them by,

I almost can believe that she is here,

In the glow of the night.

Do you know what you have done?

Do you know what you've begun?

Do you see we shall never be together again?

All of my life.

Lonely people, empty rooms,

Pointless violence, silent tombs.

Could it be that we shall be together again?

Sheets of double glazing help to keep outside the night,

Only foreign city sirens can cut through,

Nylon sheets and blankets help to minimize the cold.

But they can't keep out the chilling sounds.

Will the nightmare soon give way to dreaming

That she is here with me?

In the glow of the night.

Do you know what you have done?

Do you know what you've begun?

Do you see we shall never be together again?

Lonely people, empty rooms,

Pointless violence, silent tombs.

Could it be that we shall be together again?

In silence and darkness

We held each other near that night

We prayed it would last forever.

Blood on the windows

Millions of ordinary people are there

They gaze at the scenery

They act as if it is perfectly clear

Take a look at the mountains

Take a look at the beautiful river of blood.

The liquid surrounds me

I fight to rise from this river of hell

I stare round about me

Children are swimming and playing with boats

Their features are changing

Their bodies dissolve and I am alone.

Now see what you've gone and done.

Now you never did see such a terrible thing

As was seen last night on T.V.

Maybe if we're lucky, they will show it again

Such a terrible thing to see

There's nothing you can do when you're the next in line

You've got to go domino.

Now I'm one with the living and I'm feeling just fine

I know what I must do

Play the game of happiness and never let on

That it only lives on in a song

There's nothing you can do when you're the next in line

You've got to go domino.

Do you know what you have done?

Do you know what you've begun?

In silence and darkness

Hold each other near tonight

For will it last forever?

There's nothing you can do when you're the next in line

You've got to go domino.

(I think I'll have this played on my funeral service)
