As the post number may indicate, I am new to your community (warmest greetings to all) and so can't thank the instigator of this thread enough. Good to have a relativly easy thread to 'ease in' with.

so ay, I 'm from this side of the water. Way up in north east England in a city called Newcastle, which I do believe is world famous for......ermmm, you'd better get back to me on that one.

To any users from the UK who know of Newcastle, may I stress that, although I live in Newcastle I am not a Geordie. Amazing how often you hear that round here... can't for the life of me figure out why.

anyway, post worry is now post worry...

take care all

How can it be world famous for those things if I've never heard of them? Aren't I the deciding factor in whether something is well-known or not? I take it that Newcastle, Pennsylvania is named after Newcastle, England?

Vicky... I take it you haven't spent much time in Newcastle then.*winks* Hard to explain the geordies in mere words.... but Ant and Dec, and Jimmy Nail is a great start. perhaps why there is such fondness round here for Newcastles other famous export. the Brown Ale.......... <-( of course!)

Newcastle has also got to be famous for the way the locals refuse to wear coats in the winter when out in the pubs and clubs.

Another vote for the Brown Ale.

I am not from the UK and have never been there (yet), but my ancestors hailed from Scotland (hence my last name), Wales, and England. I haven't been able to dig up a confirmed N. Irish ancestor yet. Someday I plan to visit all of the countries that once homed my relatives from the most recent centuries, but so far I haven't the money to visit the aforementioned regions plus Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Austria.

I'm from the Uk too. I happen to be from Lancashire, or to be a little more specific - Blackpool.

Yup, I'm a dude who lives in Blackpool.

Oh, and newcastle brown ale is my friend's favourite drink. I dunno about it myself. It's a couple of years since I last had it, in which I drank newky brown and whiskey all night long, and ended up kissing a girl. (I don't remember it) It would have been great, but her b/f wasn't too happy. Thank God my more sober friends threatened to kick this guy's head in if he laid a finger on me.

Needless to say, I haven't touched newky brown or whiskey since.

Now, I'm sure that some of you guys must have been to Blackpool at leasat once in your lifetime.

I went to Blackpool on a political conference. Only I hid in the wardrobe of our B & B when everyone else was piling into the minibus to go there, and then spent the day skiving on the beach. About 4pm a hand landed on my shoulder and a voice said "Teri - why aren't you in the conference?" I nearly pooed myself, but it turned out that guy was skiving too - he'd gone in there but escaped via the toilet window. So we alibied each other by saying we were sitting next to each other behind a large pillar away from our comrades. Bad Teri. Huge beach there.

I was in a political group, it was somewhat like a religious cult and every question I asked about animal rights was answered with 'we'll get round to that issue after the revolution'. I escaped by moving house...

Well, I'll start thread again for you. I don't know how I managed to miss this thread the first time round, but I'll tell you where I'm from anyway. I'm from Yorkshire (though my parents aren't) and now I'm at university in Oxford (have been for the last 4 years), but I probably spend more time with my boyfriend in Surrey/Middlesex where he's studying and also my parents are in the process of moving to the Highlands so I see them up there sometimes. So yeah, you could say I get around a bit!
