I just recently got back into swimming. I swam in high school but haven't done much as an adult. But the last two weeks I've been going to my local Masters Swim Team practices. They're good. The coach has one basic workout that he changes into three versions for the slower or faster people. Usually I'm in the middle group. We do about 2000+ yards.

Anyone else swimming?

I get out 3-4 times per week at lunchtime anywhere between 2000 and 3000 yds depending on how much time I have. My gym has an outdoor pool which is a huge plus for me. It's a great break in the day, and it's a great way to tune out the world (at least when I am not sharing a lane).

I am not currently doing any kind of drill work. What's your coach's workout?

I love swimming, but I think I need lessons, my form is awful and I can't do front crawl anymore

I just made a deal with a friend's dad to use his pool this summer to go swimming during the week for a hour or so each time. Told him id give him 20 bucks a month or something and he would never even see me there.

I think I am going to go 2 days a week.... somewhere between my 3 to 4 weekly gym visits.

I wanna go so I can even out my tan, I am tired of my farmers tan, plus I figure it might help me tone a few places and help with some of my knee pain I been having.

My gym has a indoor pool... but public pools are a no go for me. I had a real bad experience with a hot tub at a hotel one time when I was a kid, never happening again.

I love swimming, it is the best exercise. I'm better at distance and form than at speed, though. I never really won any races, but I was the most graceful one out there

What is your favorite stroke? I usually stick to freestyle and breaststroke.

So far, it's been between 400-600 warm-up (slow to moderate freestyle), then some variation of kick+swim (for example, 10 100s alternating kick and swim each 100), then something that's a breathing exercise or sprinting or IM, then a lighter set as a sort of cool down. It's always just one hour, no more or less.

Quote:

Those are my faves too. I think that's common.
I only do fly or back when we have to. But I can't do breast right now because I broke my pinky toe and it kills me to do the breast kick.

How about everyone else? What's your favorite stroke?
Also, what are some of your favorite pieces of equipment?

Oh, I'd like to go swimming regularly but I would need find someone to give me lessons first because my style is horrible. (Plus the fees for access to the pool are ridiculous so I prefer the gym and yoga after all for workouts.)

I love swimming, but I'm embarrassed to use the pool at our gym because I fear my style probably looks like a fat man splashing wildly. Need to find a class somewhere.

Ocean or my pool. I prefer the ocean, but the pool is more convenient.

Most of my swims are in a pool at my gym. Once or twice a month, I'll get in an open water swim in a nearby lake. The lake is sort of spooky - the sunlight barely reaches the plants in some of the shallower parts (maybe 10-12 ft deep), and they look like tentacles reaching up to grab me - makes me swim faster.

I have an extremely irrational fear of swimming in lakes. I'm fine with the ocean, but for whatever reason lakes freak me out.

POOL! We have a great Olympic sized pool in my city that I go to.
I do not much like swimming in open water because I have an active imagination. And it's usually too cold.
But I admire those who do. And someday I'll do it as part of a triathlon or something.

As soon as I get a bike I'm going to start triathlon training. This means learning how to swim again...

I can relate to the active imagination thing, I can't even swim too close to the bars at the deep end of swimming pools cos that's where the sharks are kept.

Going to the lido today, woo! Biggest pool in the country

I'd go every day this summer, but as soon as you get a bit of sunshine, everyone else has the same idea

I'm working as a lifeguard this summer, but ironically, I haven't been in the pool at all! I spend most of my day walking around, but since I don't have access to a pool other than my workplace, I'm benched for the summer I love breaststroke and treading water personally. Treading water is so calming, it's like my yoga!

I've swum in the ocean since forever and freshwater lakes before that it's been tough here lately because of cool weather.

Two years ago I was stopped by the Police Boat for swimming too far from shore-which shows you how little they have to do.

A well tempered vocal blast pinned the cops' ears back and I haven't been bothered since.

I like using swim fins here since currents can be quite heavy not dangerous but draining.

love to swim. it's my second best physical activity ever.

only in the ocean...very rarely in a pool.

for all out energizing i like the standard fast crawl; breaststroke would be my next fast stroke.
for the most relaxing swim, i use the backstroke most. sometimes treading. depends.
for the ultimate relaxing experience, i just float on my back with arms outstretched.

and if i don't feel like swimming, i'll run, walk, kick-box, martial arts, gymnastics, yoga or whatever else comes to mind because any physical activity you can (or can't) do on land, you can do a 100 times better in the water.

Quote:
