The Shame of Being an American

If Israel is targeting Hezbollah, why are Israeli bombs falling on northern Lebanon? Why are they falling on Beirut? Why are they falling on civilian airports? On schools and hospitals?

By Paul Craig Roberts

07/22/06 "Information Clearing House" -- -- Gentle reader, do you know that Israel is engaged in ethnic cleansing in southern Lebanon? Israel has ordered all the villagers to clear out. Israel then destroys their homes and murders the fleeing villagers. That way there is no one to come back and nothing to which to return, making it easier for Israel to grab the territory, just as Israel has been stealing Palestine from the Palestinians.

He is a former associate editor of the Wall Street Journal, former contributing editor for National Review, and was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration.

And blaming the US for this misses out the point that 95% of the Israelli population approves of the current military action of the IDF and that Olmert's popularity ratings are sky-high. He is fulfilling the demands of citizens.

Well, since Bush is (according to his own words) the leader of the world, his decisions are bound to be significant enough to merit some attention.

Well, in a way, criticism against the administration is also directed to the citizins, at least the ones who voted for the current administration, which is the majority of the citizins.

I understand that people get tired of the ongoing criticism against the USA government or at Bush himself, but, I also think this is to be expected, since it is one of the largest, and the most powerfull country in the world. Of course they are going to get more criticism from the rest of the world then, say, Belgium.

Quote:

Personally, I am tired of people who say a topic on a discussion board is "over" because it's old or has been discussed before or they simply don't care for it. When the nightly news comes on and tells me that Veggieboards has managed to solve conflicts x, y, and z (where "x, y, and z" may equal anything from abortion to political image) and there are now peaceful solutions that all mankind agrees upon for said issues, then I might agree with you that a topic is tired or old. Till then, why don't you just not join that discussion thread and discuss something that does interest you?

I do Sarahjayn. I haven't jumped into the other half billion threads about how horrible American is that keep popping up in the heap. I've ignored them all up until now. I'm getting a bit tired about hearing about how shameful and horrible my country is though. You'll have to excuse me but after a while it turns from discussion into bashing and offensive. I have a right to state my opinion, even if my opinion is that the subject has been beaten to death and taken too far.

Wow. I'm amazed that anyone could read that article by Roberts and think they could get anything useful out of it. Amazing.

Really? If someone criticizes the Canadian government (or Canadian Prime Minister) for one reason or another, maybe it could be construed as criticism of Canada, but I don't take it personally or anything.

I'm not ashamed to be American. We do have one of the greatest countries in the world. I didn't choose to be born here, but I make the best of it

I'm an American who loves my beautiful country. I am furious to see the Bush administration hijacking my country for their own political, military power agenda. And most of it in secret, to boot.

I am also disgusted with mainstream American media for their awful reporting. For example, I just heard them say, "The Bush administration is doing everything possible to stop the violence between Israel and Lebanon." Period. Absolutely no mention of the arms shipment Bush just sent to Israel so Israel can kill more children. This means the people who don't examine things in depth and rely on mainstream media never get the real story.

If you're talking about the fast-tracking of US arms to Israel - BS. That tidbit was all over the "mainstream" media.
