That "Cats and Vegans" thread is starting to get freaky with some people starting to agree that they HATE cats. And I thought we were supposed to be a friendly bunch.

But it got me thinking that maybe some of us do have a dislike of certain animals, however animal-friendly we may claim to be.

So which animal do you like the least. If you were told that you had to get rid of one species from this planet, which would it be and why?

no-see-ums. they are this tiny tiny fly that gives the itchiest welts you could ever image. They sometimes travel in clouds and can suck a cup of blood out of you before you realize you've been biten.

Excluding insects, I'd have to go with "laughing" hyenas. They give me the heebie geebies. But I agree that humans are probably the worst.

Snakes, no doubt about it. I killed 25 or more in my youth that somehow managed to cross my path but now I just try to avoid them. Got nailed by a big copperhead once but fortunately it didn't penetrate my boots very much, just scratched the skin.

Ok so most of you would know by now that pretty much the only animals I dislike are cats *aaaah-chew*

So I'll tell you my favourite instead. Its not really a traditional animal/pet thing really but my fave is snails. I've loved them since I was a little girl. I still pick them up off driveways and roads etc and put them back in the garden. My mum has never been able to use snail bait or the like. They aren't cuddly but I like em. Slugs on the other hand *shudder*. I also love turtles so maybe its the whole shell thing?

I'm not particularly animal friendly - never had pets, and don't want to. But neither do i hate any particular animal.

Frankly, I find it disturbing when people say that they "hate" any animal. Take cats. The psychological reason why cats are disliked (and abused!) by more people than dogs is that cats have fewer fascial muscles - that's why they look "cruel", "dumb" or "indifferent".

Animals are just that - animals. It's our problem if we can't resist and interpret personalities and emotions into everything around us. This is not only futile, but can also be dangerous. We should let animals out of this silly mind-game of ours as good as possible.

Granted - animals can be downright annoying. I have a few birds outside who wake me up all the time - this at times infuriates me. But hate? No. Also, animals sometimes can be a threat to you. But still i wouldn't hate them (and neither would i love them).

I'm fascinated by evolution and biology and the complex ecosystems that result from animals and plants coexisting.

I like to take "lower" animals, things like ants, worms, slugs, millipedes, earwigs, spiders etc into my hand and look at them in awe... And I read about animals and watch documentaries. It's all very interesting and important knowledge for us - and that's all there is to animals IMHO!

LOL

Ticks or spiders... probably ticks more than spiders. Some spiders are cool (although they freak me out if they climb on me) but ticks...? Nuh-uh!

alpacas. I hate alpacas. They eat endangered species of grass and flowers and no vegan should put up with that.

I don't HATE any animal - and by the way, alpaca's are cute! Doesn't mean I want them in my yard - just cute!

I guess the only animal I really hate would be my mother-in-law's dog! And......I LOVE DOGS! I have 4 of them! But - I despise this little, nasty, barking dog. I have no idea what the heck kind of dog this is - but it needs a good dose of ritalin and prozac! I mean - I would take a large spider crawling up my arm to this dog in my home for 2 seconds!

By the way.....kristadb.......no-seeums are hateful little creatures! I still have no idea what their purpose is on this earth! Except to bite the heck out of you and annoy you. Yuck
