Hello everyone,

I'm new here, obviously. I am 17 years old, and have been a vegetarian for a little over a year now.

I'd like to start off this thread because I noticed there is about a million new threads for each person. In this thread, if you're new, post here instead of making a new thread.

So, tell a little about yourself:

You're a newbie and you think you get to start the "official" Introduce Yourself thread, lol. I don't think so. Well, maybe, we'll see how it goes...

Anyway, welcome to VB.

Welcome to VB!

Two things, though:

1. I edited your post (I can do that because I'm a moderator) because you typed it in such a small size that it was almost unreadable. Please avoid doing that in future posts. Thank you.

2. We prefer that each new user to VB create their own new introductory thread so that each one can be welcomed individually. That's why you see "a million new threads" in this forum.

You think just because I'm new on this board means I've never used a forum. I don't think so.

I just figured that welcoming every person seems like a waste of time and it'd be easier just to look through and see new people instead of welcoming each person, half of which will never post again.

it's not a waste of time to welcome new members.

if you'd like to make suggestions about things you can post it in the 'community assistance' section and see how that goes.

I'm not saying you won't or don't have good ideas. It's just that as jenna said, you can make suggestions in the appropriate forum. Like take me for instance. I'm a good boy:

http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/s...ad.php?t=55318

Btw, I quite like your idea. Maybe having a weekly "Official Newbie Thread" or something would be the way to go. You'll see a few ideas bounced around in the above mentioned thread. What I thought was funny was that you just join up and start the "Official Newbie Thead" without consulting anyone. But just as I feel it isn't your place to make such a change, it also isn't my place to say you can't make such a change. That's why I said "well, maybe, we'll see how it goes...".

We do have a highly paid CEO here (Michael) and the mods are also fairly compensated for their hard work. I leave it up to them to make the difficult decisions. We can have input but they have the power to implement them (or not).

It could be possible to welcome people individually in one thread even if there were multiple new members each day - one would just have to quote the member's post one is responding to. But it could get chaotic, so the forum is easier to read.

I didn't really see a reason for why it's better to have one endlessly long thread than a subforum.

That being said, I don't really follow the introduction forum so I don't care either way

Hi If Winters Ends,

welcome to the boards!

While we (the mods) appreciate your enthusiam to improve the boards, we do think it is important that any newbie can start their own thread in the introductions forum, which is why a seperate forum exists- it's just for this purpose.

This thread is your official introduction, and other newbies can have the pleasure of having their own.

Wow I'm surprised at the responses. Jeez.

I read the initial post and I thought "That's a good idea, to just have anyone who wants to post the basics about themselves in one thread. Then people can just scroll through and get the general info about each person." Makes more sense to me than those threads with the person's introduction, then a million posts of "Welcome!" I didn't think of it as being everyone welcoming everyone else. Just a general thread with basic info on everyone who wants to post it. Then I read the responses. Damn.

Yeah but it would be PAGES and PAGES of intros and people's "hi, I'm here!" posts would get completely lost/buried.

That's why one of my VB pet peeves is when a newbie "borrows" somebody else's intro thread to introduce themselves instead of creating their own intro thread.

As a not-so-long-ago newbie myself, I tend to think the individual threads are a much better idea.

I'm a member of several other boards as well, Winter, and I think (first of all) it's presumptious and poor newbie ettiquette to start an "Official" ANYTHING thread without hanging out for a while, and second, I know I recieved many more "welcomes" from members here when I posted my own thread than in all those other boards combined when I posted in their useless "Official Introduction" threads.

Oh, and BTW, off subject, but the mods here (despite their amazing salary) are awesome.
