One of the hobbies I have is making a list of movies that I would make if I

1: had ****loads of money.

2: talent.

3: Permission

So for example, one of my favorites is "Mothra vs. Rock Lobster", a tribute to Japanese B movies and also just an excuse to get my favorite two ultra-cheeze party songs onto one soundtrack: "Mothra" by Those Darn Accordians and "Rock Lobster" by the B52s. (Good idea for a mix CD there.)

A version of H. P. Lovecraft's "In the Mountains of Madness" filmed Blair Witch documentary style.

I have half a notebook full of film abstracts. 'Twas once my desire to go to NYU Film but then I realized I didn't have the tolerence for that much work and cocaine.

I'd like to make a movie about my two grandmothers and the juxtaposition of their lives - how they were once so far apart (one being a British WWI Land Soldier, the other the first freely-educated daughter of a slave) are and how their lives are so completely intertwined now.

That, and a porn prequel to Spaceballs.

I have long wanted to make a film about the Triangle Factory fire (in NYC, 1911). Since 9-11, though, my ideas about how to go about it have changed. There are too many similarities -- tall building on fire; people trapped inside, or jumping rather than being burned to death; many lives tragically despite the best efforts of rescue workers. Of course the cause was very different. But any film I make about the Triangle fire will have to reference the WTC, and I'm not sure how to go about that ethically. :p

Is the VB movie one that we will never make?

There SO should be a sequel to Close Encounters! Spielberg set himself up for a sequel, but as far as I know, never followed up with one.

I'm currently taking part in the filming of a very cheesy, very home video, horror flick which will probably only be 20 minutes long at best. We're using a camcorder and it's for our own amusement. Let's just say that the murderer is a ventriloquist dummy. We are having so much fun with it!

I will mail it to anyone who wants to see it. It is so incredibly cheesy and bad, but has a great hilarity to it for that very reason. (That was my disclaimer). I have no idea when it will be done, but when it is....just let me know if you want to see it; ANYONE. I like the idea of tons of people watching this silly thing. Another disclaimer: Beware of gore. Lots of it.

hrm, decided to bounce this up again:

More movies I'll never make:

A restoration of the original Nosferatu with a soundtrack by Kate Bush, The Creatures, Rob Zombie, Trent Reznor and Philip Glass. Of course, I'd have to get Kronos Quartet back together for the insturmentals. (I always hear Kate Bush in my mind when I see Mina on screen.)

A good Frankenstein.

Do the Count of Monte Cristo justice, probably as a 5-hour mini series.

I've had an idea for a musical centering around freshmen in a co-ed dorm for a long time. Sex, drugs, looking for love in the wrong places, identity, there could be something there.

There is a group of Black folks called "The Nation of Gods and Earths" or commonly known as Five Percenters. They are an offshoot of "The Nation of Islam" founded by Elijah Muhammed. Clarence 13x, a member of Elijah's group left and formed the N.G.E. Anyway, they have some interesting philosophies one of which included a scientist named Yacub (Jacob) performing gene manipulation (or grafting) over 6000 years ago resulting in the creation of the white race. This of course, is just a theory but I always thought it would make an interesting and controversial film.

i always get crazy abstract movie ideas at random, usually after i've had some screwed up dream, but i never follow through on any of them. maybe i ought to one of these days...

getting a camcorder first would help, eh?

I write a lot of scripts. Some of which, after a few pages of writing, I think are completely diabolical and they inevitably end up hidden somewhere in the dark realms of my hard drive.

Last week I sadly quit writing a story that I've been writing for a long long time, merely because it wasn't going anywhere at all. I'm not going to give up on it completely, though. I'm going to shelve it until I get this other thing (just this modern noir-type story) done then see if I have any new ideas when I return to it.

I saw the preview for this before F9/11. I found myself involuntarily pulling my feet up off the floor. I'm very intrigued, but I don't know if I'll be able to watch it in the theater, unless there is no one next to me and I can huddle into a small ball. Can't have my feet on the floor in case any floor sharks come swimming by.
I do the same thing when watching Jaws.
