Ughh..this has not been a good day. First I accidently burned something in the microwave and the smoke alarm went off..

And now..

So every friday I eat something "not-so-healthy" to keep myself from going insane on my diet. Usually I choose dinner. Today I ate a veggie wrap (without the mayo-mustard mixture) and some fries along with some vegan cookies (which I kind of pigged out on lol)

ANYWAY..So when I was eating the fries I got down to the last few of them and I noticed a chunk of fried chicken! Bleghhh!! I was so frustrated.. I hadnt noticed it at first because fries were on top of it but I feel so gross! I realized that the chicken was probably cooked in the same place the fries were and that I had probably just eaten fries contaminated with chicken!!

I'm sooo stupid, I should have asked first...

I'm sure this happens to everyone once in a while..what have you ever accidently eaten that made you feel like 'blegh'? Goes for all veg*ns

Although I'm not vegan, I did stop eating eggs (except pasta and some pastries) but yesterday I ordered a greek salad without the eggs or feta. Well, the eggs were in there and although I picked around them I felt gross afterwards.

I got the Mediterranean Veggie sandwich from Panera (minus the feta and onions )

I ended up picking it apart and eating the bread separately. The bread was covered in roasted red peppers which I picked off and ate separately (I never eat like this so I don't know what my deal was ) and I noticed what I thought was a red pepper in one corner but I left it there. Took a bite and it was a small piece of BACON! Blechhhh it was so disgusting.

I haven't eaten meat in nearly 4 years

Ack, it's the worst feeling, isn't it?

I was at my Aunt's house a few days before Christmas: she had made some dinner, and I wasn't expecting it at all, but she let me know that the lasagna she made was vegetarian. Halfway through, though, I noticed something chewy, salty, and rubbery. I forked around, and low and behold, there were a few minuscule rogue sausage pieces in the lasagna! I put my fork down and felt guilty about it the whole night--I just wanted to go home and clean myself out or something. All I could think about was how I had a piece of dead animal inside me. I nearly had an anxiety attack.

I didn't question her about it, but my guess is she probably started making a lasagna with meat and then remembered I was coming over, so scraped it out, leaving some tiny pieces behind. I'd much rather she just made the damn thing as she intended and simply let me know: I'm perfectly happy either fasting or eating any veg suitable fare around the house.

It was a pretty rough experience, but it made me even stronger in my vegetarianism than ever (or at least made me realize how strong it was): I now know I'll be veg for life.

I ordered a favorite vegan sandwich last week at a very vegan-friendly place (this particular sandwich was supposed to come with a vegan burger and roasted veggies in it), took a bite, and realized there was cheese in the burger. It was a vegetarian one, not a vegan one.

I brought it to the girl-behind-the-counter's attention and she attempted to tell me THREE separate times that it WAS vegan and she fed it to vegans all the time. No amount of pointing to the stretchy orange cheese and explaining that EVERY other time I had ordered this sandwich with the "vegan burger" it had been dark brown, not light brown with yellow spots of cheese would convince her otherwise. I tried explaining how the last time I was there, chatting about their burgers to the owners, they had said they had veggie ones with cheese and she must have made that for me by accident. Nope, she said, it "must be" vegan cheese. Dude, no, it wasn't. I know cheese, and this was REAL cheese. She apologized for MY confusion, remade the sandwich with the right burger and said I needed to request "the broiled one" next time because they had two vegan burgers.

Sure. Too bad one of them is NOT EFFING VEGAN.

She pissed me off so much, I'm going to have a chat with the owners next time I'm in there. They are very cool people, they carry vegan breads and they carry vegan cheese for their pizzas... But this chick they have working for them? Ergh.

At school lunch, I had snatched a bit of my friends quesodilla when he wasnt look and what do you know... it had chicken in it! I should have known because i used to get the quesodilla in my past life (before i was a vegetarian) but i wasn't thinking. I felt really bad afterwards, and from then on I thought before i bite.

4 years ago I ordered vegetarian lasagna at an Old Spaghetti Factory downtown and it came totally covered in cheese (this was well before my veganism), I put a huge bite in my mouth and noticed something that tasted like salty rubber or something, it was really gross so I spit it out and then of course realized they had accidentally given me the meat lasagna with ground beef.

I was so grossed out I tried to clean my tongue off with my napkin and got bits of paper in my mouth, then I ended up rinsing with water in the bathroom and spitting a bunch of times. They brought me a new one without the meat this time but by that point I had mostly lost my appetite. Not only was it a bit of a COW, and cows are some of my favourite animals, but I was also genuinely surprised at how icky it had tasted to me, because when I was a little kid and didn't know where it came from I used to love the taste of ground beef.

This time it ironically tasted like it was artificial and made of rubber to me compared to the Yves veggie ground round I usually get, it was odd to realize that my taste had changed to the point that fake meat tastes real and real meat tastes fake.

lol... during 2nd week of going vegetarian I had a dream that I picked up a piece of chicken and ate it like it was nothing... I woke up with that 'nightmare' feeling because I felt I ditched the vegetarian diet after all this planning...

... but luckily... no meat craving yet.

I'm sure I've consumed fries that have been dipped with meat... I'm not THAT strict yet about my veggie diet, yet... so if I were out a restaurant I'd forget to ask if a vegetable soup were made with chicken stalk...etc. I wouldn't flip out.. just yet.

I went to a cafe about a week ago and got a soup. It was a noodle soup but didn't mention anything about meat. I started to eat it when I noticed there was chunks of chicken in it, I did not finish it. D:

I went to this bakery that was listed as 'vegetarian friendly'. I was in a hurry and hungry, looked around and saw they had a 'vegetable sandwich'.. My phone started ringing and I quickly bought the sandwich and started eating it outside.. After eating roughly a third of it, I noticed that underneath the tomatoes and eggplants etc. there were these thin layers of raw ham. Aah! It was the first miss after quitting meat and I was standing there in a busy Tokyo street looking for a place to puke, my stomach was just so upset.

Lesson learned though - I always always ask if a vegetable this, or salad that has meat or fish in it.. (vegetables seem to be 'in' right now because of diet reasons, but that doesn't mean that the meat is actually 'out').

Yea it's amazing how many things are listed as "vegetarian friendly" but then they have chunks of meat in it! I just don't understand that! How hard is it to understand "vegetarian".. even when I was omni I understood that vegetarian meant NO MEAT- including fish!!

I know I ate this baked potato salad with bacon in it after I became veg. It was pre-made at the store and for the longest time they only used chives in it but then one day I was eating it and it tasted different so I had my sister try some because we couldn't tell if the specs were chives or bacon and she said yeah it's bacon. Live and learn. I'm sure I've eaten other things that I had no idea were there but all you can do is try your best and not worry about the things you can't control. Easier to do if you prepare your own food of course, but I'm lazy.

First day of being veggie. At school, my friend was offering around her food as she usually does (we all shared everything), and I took a bite without thinking. A bite of her sausage roll. Two seconds later, "AHH! MEAT!", and I spat it out into the bin. They still won't let me forget that, and any time a discussion about vegetarianism comes up they all go "AHH! MEAT!" and flap their arms in an uncanny impression of me.

I actually find this hilarious xD

I ordered pad thai the other night, with veggies and tofu like usual, and when I started eating it I noticed these big...hunks...of stuff. I bit into one, thinking maybe it was soy chikun? Now, I haven't eaten meat in almost eight years, so it literally took a solid two minutes of careful inspection before I figured out that it was, in fact, actual chicken. BLAG. I can't believe people eat that stuff on purpose!

They remade my pad thai for me. It was teh yumz.

Exactly. I find it frustrating because it can be 'so close, yet so far'.. There is this healthy eating salad chain store that has shops all over Tokyo, close to the stations, in department stores etc. with a big variety of salads that you can buy for lunch. Great option for when you don't have time to cook or don't know a restaurant in the neighbourhood. I can only order one of them though and that is bibimba (not even salad) because all of the salads will have either meat or fish on them...

About six months after I became a vegetarian, my friend invited me and a whole bunch of her other friends to a steakhouse for her birthday. I looked at the menu before hand and saw that they also had a "vegetarian salad bar." I thought, oh great, I can actually eat while I'm at this steakhouse. So, I get there and when the waiter takes my order I tell him I'm a vegetarian. He asks if I want an entree of chicken or fish in addition to the salad bar. I say no thanks, thinking that it's kind of weird that he'd say that if I just told him I'm a vegetarian. So, I head over to the salad bar to get some yummyness. They had tons of different salads, and pastas and grilled veggies and crackers and hummus and all that. So, I'm eating and enjoying myself and not really looking down at the plate. I put a mouthful of vegetable pasta in my mouth and start chewing and then realize that there's something chewy and kind of acrid tasting. I spit it out and realize it's a piece of chicken!! I guess in this restaurant, everything except beef, lamb and pork is vegetarian. I've heard this a lot more now, but I was pretty new at this point and this was so surprising!

Salad doesnt even need meat or fish.. haha You can still have a yummy salad with just a wide range of veggies and fruit without meat. It just seems crazy to me that you can't even order a salad without there being meat.
