The day will come, when, as with the tobacco companies who have been proved to have lied deliberately to the consumer about the dangers of tobacco, the Dairy Industry will be brought to account.

I cannot believe that they do not know how bad dairy products are for human health.

They lie deliberately. They cannot believe their tripe.

I hope one day we will see lawsuits against them by people who have fallen ill due to the junk they have been fed by the dairy industry.

Maybe someday cartons of milk, eggs, and cheese will have a surgeon general's warning on it like tabacco products do now. Someday it will happen.

Amen! I wish some day on milk cartons there can be warnings, like on tobacco packets. For instance: "THIS HELPLESS CREATURE DIED FOR YOUR SELFISH GREEDY DESIRES. HOW DARE YOU EVEN THINK OF SUPPORTING SUCH A SADIST CORPORATION?!" ETA: No offence to ovo-lacto vegetarians.

I've never really researched it, but sometimes I wonder if there used to be the same type of controversy surrounding tobacco that now surrounds dairy. Like, did a small group of people used to believe adamantly that tobacco was extremely damaging to human health, but were labeled as "extremists" and mostly looked down on, like anti-dairy advocates are now?

I'm sure there have always been people who didn't like tobacco, who became sick from the smoke or got headaches. They were probably largely ignored, or didn't speak up much.

This thread was originally in the Vegetarian forum. It was moved here, but nearly got moved to the COMPOST HEAP because of the "controversial" views in it.

Most strange, but then there's no point in arguing with a moderator, is there?

I wish this could happen. Not just on the dairy industry's products, but the meat industry & egg industry, too.

Quote:

I wouldn't be surprised. Anyone who shares the views of the minority of the majority is immediately labeled "extreme".

My thoughts exactly. I think it should read something like "Caution. This product has been linked to obesity, Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, breast cancer, prostate cancer, anemia, and osteoporis."

It's too bad there's no such thing as second-hand milk; I wonder if what has happened with cigarettes would happen with milk if it wasn't only dangerous to the milk drinker.

Also I think the health risks associated with cigarettes are probably more easily pinned down to cigarettes.

A lot of health problems milk drinkers have are probably exacerbated by a poor diet and unhealthy lifestyle in general and can't be blamed solely on milk. (ie. milk would only be a contributing factor.)

I also think it's sad that it would be the effects it has on people's health that puts and end to milk, and not the effects it has on cow's health. Because dairy cattle always seem to die on the job, as it were. And tobacco plants don't feel fear, pain or boredom.

People have a choice. Cows...not so much.

Then again, who cares why people give up dairy. It'd just be happy they did.

Cheers!

The quoted post was made because I was in a bad mood because of a phone-call I had received. It was not necessary (the post, not the phone-call.) I apologise to the moderator concerned.

I think it would be hard though, just considering that people now think it's even more acceptable to consume dairy products that are organic. It's hard because the organic label is generally viewed as positive, so people that may have had seconds thoughts about conventional dairy, may think that organic dairy is the solution and not think about the acutally dairy product itself.

Dairy will be hard to get rid of just because it's so culturally woven into most people's diets and lives. Especially since most people view the majority of things to be okay in moderation (like having ice cream during the summer), so they could cut back on consumption, but not eliminate it. People now generally accept that they should eat less dairy, but not that they shouldn't eat any.

Statistics (from medical sources, not vegan sources) say that about 75% of the world population is lactose intolerant.

I cannot believe that this is not a serious factor in many diseases and ill-health.

I think it is, just not as much as people realize. One of the main things that people are told to avoid for a lot of diseases or illnesses is dairy products. There should be a lot more studies and research regarding exactly how dairy can influence both the cause of something, and the affect it can have on existing conditions. I don't think I'll see it in my lifetime though.

The fact that so many people are lactose intolerant speaks volumes towards whether or not humans were meant to drink milk after infancy. (Nevermind the milk of another species.)

To go in a slightly different direction, what galls me is that people who are lactose intolerant, rather than just avoiding milk, take a pill so they can digest something their bodies aren't naturally equipped to.

I mean, apparently arsenic tastes sweet but I wouldn't want to take a pill just so I could find out.

Also galling is those who would spew at the suggesting of eating cheese made from dog's milk but don't see that cow's milk is just as gross.

It's a pretty uck fupped world we're livin' in.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I say the same things about dairy and even in other threads here on VB.

I have never heard of a pill for lactose intolerance.

Indeed, we live in a really screwed up world. All those baby calves slaughtered, all those poor cows who will end up slaughtered and who are exploited day and night to give people a food that is NOT intended for them.

Sometimes I weep. But weeping solves nothing. Only words (information) and deeds (action) can make a difference.

But still, those tears are hard to fight against sometimes.

The word MUST get out how bad dairy is for human health. It is just not normal that this is covered up to the extent it is. It's almost scary... like they want to kill people or something.
