The Beauty of it All!

A couple of weeks ago, I had a meeting at Gibbs Cancer Center and Research Institute at Spartanburg Regional Hospital in SC. As I waited for the Oncology Specialist I was to meet with, I strolled around the beautiful lobby's coffee shop, gift store, and book store and something really hit me. When I peeked into the bookstore, right out in front, there was a table that had homemade colorful hats with a sign that told patients they could take one for free, and right in the middle of the hats was a flyer for the Cancer Project classes I will be teaching in January for Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. I couldn't take my eyes off of it! That visual represented three things to me. Sickness, because of the chemo and hair loss patients have to endure; Generosity, because someone cared enough to knit hats for them; and HOPE, because there was an announcement encouraging them to sign up for classes that would empower them with knowledge about nutrition and how cancer survivors can live longer healthier lives. Whew! The coordinator emailed me yesterday to say 26 have signed up and more are wanting to attend. They originally limited it to 25, but are thinking of extending it to 35 because people are so excited. I tremble with excitement just thinking about it. What an honor to play a part of bringing hope and encouragement to these patients. Blessed beyond measure!

How adorable is that?

I love knitted hats and wear them all the time in the cooler months.

I often wear a buff in spring/summer because they keep my hair in order. But because I routinely wear them I've been approached by ladies with various forms of sickness who are suffering hair loss. It's nice that I can tell them where to get them. It's a way for them to feel comfortable, even a bit 'cool', and not draw attention to their disease.

It's really important that anyone experiencing some kind of disease is able to feel 'normal'. Little things like cute/cool wooly hats help hugely.

Thank you, Bob! This has become my passion. So many people have no idea of the power of food to heal the body, and I was one of them. My mission is to inform and share this information. It seems to be a driving force in my life the last few years. It's just amazing to me that what it best for our bodies is also best for the planet and all creatures. I appreciate your kind words, they encourage me to keep on keeping on. :)
