Doctors?!?

I almost wish something would happen to completely kill the entire Atkins phase. I saw a report a few months ago where the Atkins creator had heart problems, haven't seen it since his death so can't confirm it. I don't think I have to look far to figure out why.

when will people realize that diets don't work. eating good foods in moderation does. this might not make you "skinny" but it will make you healthy. society is too concerned with what is on the outside and not on the inside

I totally agree, I mean, who has ever seen an overweight or obese person that eats a varied healthy diet, practices moderation, and exercises?? I haven't!

I have met several folks who were on the Atkins diet and swore by it. I told them, "Why don't you try going vegan?" and they always look shocked, "Why I could never do that! I don't have the discipline" HUH? Try taking me off of my carbs....hehehe

Ooops, sorry aj'smommy, and Kreeli, god I think sometimes I'm just the most ignorant person and don't even notice.

Or maybe I am just (again) not good with words and it TOTALLY came out the wrong way. I'm sorry!

What I meant wasn't that everyone that eats right and exercises is skinny. I don't even like the word skinny... reminds me of emaciated supermodels *yech*. What I meant is that you will be at a healthy weight (even if it's not "officially" in the normal weight range) if you just eat healthy and exercise right.

I mean, what is the point of going on a diet and totally wrecking your body to be skinny when all you actually want is to like your body and be healthy?

i just wanted to add that there are actually *very few* people who "eat right", "practice moderation" and "exercise", no matter what their body types. so i am glad, veganna, that you see how your statement was flawed and prejudiced.

i wish everyone could be as quick to apologize as you were, when they make a thoughtless statement. remember there are healthy people of all body types -- even the "overweight".

the things that indicate whether or not a person is healthy include at-rest heart rate, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure and overall fitness level. not body size.

thanks.

Guess you have not met me yet....

My obesity comes from my inability to exersize to the fullest like most people. I have a walking disability, and can not do most excersizes that you can do.

My being overweight has come over time, as I get older it is harder to run around like I used to when I was younger. There are overweight people that get that way due to no fault of their own, but they try and eat well, excersize and practice moderation.

You know, I am really upset about this diet. My dad has been on this diet for 3 years and has done excellent on it (I've posted stories before) but now my finaces mom has been on the diet for 2 months and wants my finace to go on it too. That would just drive me crazy. How different can our two eating habits be then? ARRGG. My dad dosen't live with me, so mabye it didn't upset me as much as this for that reason, but I will go insane.

Okay, venting done.

It's mostly the unhealthiness of the diet. Sure people lose weight on it, if followed correctly. Hell, my mom has lost weight on it.

But- she was eating things like cream cheese wrapped in slices of ham, the meat and cheese off of pizzas, the meat out of hamburgers... It seemed almost like she barely ever ate grains (it does allow some in a phase or two. I forget how it works)! It's losing weight, but not exactly healthy.

So she went to the doctor about losing weight. Our doctor told her, "If it's white, don't bite." No white bread, potatoes, rice, etc. So now she gets her carbs with red potatoes, wheat bread, brown rice, things like that. She still seems brainwashed about the carb thing though. She told me the other day, "You should watch your carb intake..." ...WHAT? First of all, it's not like I gained weight or anything, because I haven't. Second- No, my diet is healthy enough! I get a pretty good intake of all things I need, I mean, I don't eat carbs from grains in every meal, but I eat them as I need them.

This diet upsets me. Eating the way I do hasn't made me gain weight yet.

Oh, I forgot... I had kept warning my mom that the Atkin's diet was bad news. She wouldn't listen... Now her liver is too fatty...

It's like, "I hate to say I told you so..."
