Well, after finding a car company that would approve our credit (and not a moment to soon the trany on my old car was about to go), we have bought ourselves a new car. Obviously the fact that we were able to get credit had its own weight in the equation, but we loved the features, and really enjoyed the test drive (far more than any other car in its class that we had tried). The other great thing was that we were able to work through a dealer who is a friend of the family, so we knew we were getting the best deal possible.

We ended up purchasing a 2003 Dodge SX Sport. It is the next generation in the Neon line of cars. I know what some of you are thinking, ugghh, a Neon, and believe me, that was a concern of mine as well. However, I checked out a number of reviews, and they all had great things to say about the SX. We picked up the car when we went to visit my parents this weekend, and so had the joy of driving it through the winding countryside on the way back.

Of all the cars in its class and price range that we looked at (mid-priced sub compact), it had the most features. A/C, cruise, power locks, power windows, six speakers and a CD player were all standard. The engine has a bit more pep than other cars in its class, and has proven to be very strong at passing other cars quickly (which can prove invaluable on those country roads). Even after taxes and an auto-trans we only paid just over $20,000 CDN for it. We are very happy.

Yay, new car!

Thanks everyone. It is our first new car. It is also the first time we have been given a loan or any large amount of credit without the co-signing of a parental type which is also very exciting.

Congrats!

And as far as that new car smell- try to keep your windows down as much as possible until the smell goes away- it is from carcinogenic chemicals.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asi...ic/1719214.stm
