MMM.......I had Tempeh for the first time today, in a Mongolian BBQ at my college cafeteria. It was really tasty. Plus, in a few days we're having Boca Burgers. Yum!

I know a lot of people don't really like the fake meat products...but as someone pretty new to vegetarianism, I think they're great.

I'm glad my college is pretty veggie-friendly. Sure, they still serve meat, but there's almost always an option for me....like tonight

Tempeh w/ noodles and peanut sauce (man, that was spicy, lovely)

corn

potatoes

It was a really hearty meal. Hey, I didn't become a veggie for health reasons

My college always offered some fairly decent vegetarian options. I like the fake meat too, and I'm not a new vegetarian, I've been one for about a decade. Sometimes ignorant omnis will say to me mockingly, "what's the point in eating fake meat? Why not just eat the real thing then." My response is always, "hey, I never said I had anything against the way it tastes".

I dislike almost all fake meats for various reasons but I do love tempeh. To me, tempeh doesn't look, taste or smell anything like meat. It reminds me of rice more than anything.

I have some tempeh in my fridge, going to have some for lunch.

Tempeh is soybeans and brown rice. I get the garden veggie one, which is good. The veggie one has more flavor than the other kinds.

Sorry, I misspoke myself. Tempeh is normally just made from soybeans. The garden veggie tempeh I usually get had both soybeans and brown rice in it. I love having the veggies and brown rice in my tempeh, it's yummy.

Here's a site that talks briefly about tempeh and shows a pic: http://www.tempeh.info/

Just a note though, tempeh is not fake meat. It's...well...it's tempeh!

I guess I was just calling it fake meat because it was an option for us veg*ns along with tofu, while omnis could get chicken, shrimp, or beef. Thanks for the headsup...yeah, compared to some of the morningstar or boca products not really fake meat at all.

I love tempeh, it's one of my favorite foods. While I like the regular soy tempeh, I'm just in love with the 5 grain kind and make sure to keep a package in the frige. Sweet & sour tempeh is one of my favorite dishes!

I've tried the 3-grain tempeh by Lightlife and I almost gagged. I tried marinating it, too, but it was still not to my liking. I will try the garden variety next time. Has anyone smothered tempeh with tomato sauce? Would this go well with whole grain spaghetti?

I got to visit a Whole Foods on Sunday and I found wild rice tempeh. It sounded really good so I bought a package. I will have to let you know how it tastes.

Wild rice tempeh is yummy. I fried it up with some spices and put it on some wheat bread with some hummus. It was good. I wish I could find wild rice tempeh around here. I wouldn't want to drive an hour to Whole Foods to get it.

Yeah, that's what I do. Get it nice and crsip, then make a sandwich out of it. I usually just put BBQ or mustrad and ketchup on it, or may met some cheese (soy or regular) on top. I will have to try hummus. Try this one: A hummus sandwich on a toasted everything bagel with lettuce and sliced red onions..... mmmmm! I can taste the garlic belches already.
