I had a sudden thought last night that tempeh might be good cooked all day in the crock pot (like in a stew or something.) Anyone tried it? I've had terrible luck cooking tempeh and it usually turns out really hard and nasty (except for the first time I cooked it and it turned out awesome.) I'm thinking slow cooking it in a liquid all day might be just the thing.

i've done it and hated it.

it was really soft and mushy, which i don't prefer. but if that's what you are looking for it might work out for you.

Hmm, well I don't want it soft and mushy so maybe that might not work. I need it somewhere between soft and mushy and hard and crunchy.

I think it would become WAY too mushy.

When you cooked it, did you try steaming it first? That's what I do. It comes out much nicer.

No. I'll try steaming it next time. I followed a recipe that said to marinate it and then bake it.

Baking seems to always dry the stuff out.

Marinate if you want - steam and then quickly fry until crispy and lightly browned...
