This topic is kind of abstract, but was inspired by the exchange between kpickell and astro about blocking one's own access to the Compost Heap or other forums. From one perspective(astro's), blocking one's own access to forums {edited} makes little or no sense {/edited}--just don't go there. From another perspective (kpickell's), it is perfectly sensible to avoid clutter, avoid temptation, avoid wandering into someplace by mistake, etc.
I want to broaden out this topic to include not only things on VB or relating to web-based discussion forums, but any techniques you might use in your everyday life. I tend to be more of the kpickell school of thought, so I'll list some of mine:
There's probably more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I think you get the idea.
What kinds of techniques do you use? Or would you recommend using?
For any of you involved in couples, do any such techniques make living together easier or help prevent arguments or the like?
ETA: Edited so as not to misrepresent astro's comments or read too much into them.

- I have two tables for incoming mail, one inside the front door and one inside my garage. Tied by a string to a leg of each table is a letter opener (which happens to have a small hole in the handle), so I will always have a letter opener handy.
- I have a pair of scissors on a string in my kitchen.
- I keep my toenail clippers on a string in my bedroom.
- I have a 900-number block on my phone service.
- I signed up for e-mail reminders from the Public Works Dept. about when recyclables pick-up and when chipper service pickup occur.
- I have two alarm clocks, one of which I can see from my bed but have to get out of bed to shut off.
- I signed up for e-mail reminders for the birthdays of family and friends.
- I signed up for e-mail reminders for when my Discover Card is due, etc.
- I keep a supply of extra pens and index cards in my car, because I'm always needing to be able to write down info when I got out yet often forgetting to bring such writing supplies.
- I keep a rubber band around the handle of my toilet to remind me to use waste water to flush whenever I can and not just flush automatically.
There's probably more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I think you get the idea.
