So I went 140 miles from home, into the city for a week to see what it will be like if I decide to switch to this college. Man, how do you suburbanites do this?? It's all loud and pavement-y here. Not to mention, I'm staying with a family who thinks "vegetarian" means cheese pizza, and I'm stuck here till Friday. Somebody take me home. Please.

I'm singing this in my best John Denver voice to bring you comfort.

"Make Me Stoned, Country Toads"

Almost heaven

West Virginia

Blue Ridge Mountains

Shenandoah Liquor

Moonshine's bold there

Bold as anti-freeze

Stronger than the mountains

So I switched to these -

Country toads, make me stoned

To their face - goes my tongue!

Yes I lick them, mountain frogs, ah!

Make me stoned, country toads

All my mem'ries, thrash and flounder

Mind is crazy, strangely I do wander

Dark and warty, glands behind their eyes,

Give me taste of goon-slime, weird slop in my mind

Country toads, make me stoned

Lick their face - my, they're strong!

Love to lick them, mountain frogs, ah!

Make me stoned, country toads

I hear them croak, in the mornin' hours they call me

Amphibians remind me of how stoned I will stay

Salivin' down a toad

I get a feeling

That I should have been stoned

Yesterday...yesterday!

Country toads, make me stoned

They've replaced - all my bongs!

Now I lick them, mountain frogs, ah!

Make me stoned, country toads

That's why I went to college in the middle of cornfield-land. No pavement or noise for me!*

*Also no grocery stores, decent libraries, places to have fun... I like it anyway, though. Cities are not for me.

And believe it or not, there are people who go visit the country and are thinking "There is NO WAY I could live like this!" When I first moved to the country, I was soon thinking "Why didn't I do this sooner?"

The problem, it seems, is that you are in the wrong city.

Why don't you cook for the family you're staying with one night, as a "thank you" for letting you stay... and to get yourself something else to eat.

I'm in Muncie, Indiana, and I tried cooking for them...they hated it. Guess I shouldn't have made garlic lemon cous cous. Eh, they just don't have any taste buds. Things are getting a bit better, I'm just bored out of my mind now, and the staff at the only health food store is getting sick of seeing me wander their isles.

Thank you! I hate being away from home for long periods.

No, I think you're mixing it up with her Jon Spencer impression.
