so sorry if there has already been a discussion about this...i searched and didn't really find anything

i LOVE the sweet and sour sauce served in chinese restaurants, but i can't seem to find it anywhere

i always buy different brands of sweet and sour sauce in jars, but none of them ever taste even close to the kind from the restaurants

does anyone know what brand that they use?...i'm not sure if it is the same all over the country, but at every chinese place i have ever been they've had the same sauce

so if anyone knows what brand that they use, please let me know

thanks!

If you're talking about the sauce that they often have out on the tables to dip the crunchy noodles in while waiting for your meal, it's probably duck sauce (also known as plum sauce), not sweet and sour. And no, it's not made from duck. It's usually vegan, although I'm sure someone out there has invented a way to screw that up by now.

If you're actually talking about real sweet and sour, then I have no idea. I don't order sweet and sour stuff at Chinese places often enough to know if there's a standard, or if it's usually homemade or what.
