Hello everyone - I just joined and this is my first thread. I am seeking advice from anyone who is/has been diagnosed with gastritis.

Long story short - for last few years, I have eaten a diet very high in whole grains (ie. whole oats w/ skim milk for breakfast EVERY morning w/ walnuts, raisins, berries, etc.), lots of fruits (apples, pears, etc.), whole wheat pasta/rice/couscous, fresh veggies/salads, low-fat protein (lean chix breasts, fish, beans, etc.) and have avoided almost all refined sugars, flours, hydrogenated foods, etc.

Well, I thought I had a pretty healthy diet - and yet - I have high cholesterol, acne, rosacea, brittle nails, and terrible stomach problems - was diagnosed with gastritis several months ago after switching to a new gastroenterologist (first one I saw for a year, got absolutely nowhere w/ him and he didn't listen to me at all, kept saying I needed more roughage). Well, sounds great - he put me on Nexium for about 30 days, stomach problems seemed to go away...but he took me off it, problems are back, and much worse. In a nutshell .. every waking minute of every day, I feel like I have something stuck at the base of my esophagus. It sort of burns, sort of feels like pressure, generally makes me feel like crap and has completely eliminated the joy from eating.

I have decided to eliminate grains and dairy from my diet and eat only veggies, bananas, dates (no other fruits), soy milk, almonds, and tofu. I am trying to follow an alkaline diet to see if it helps with the gastritis.

Has anyone else had these symptoms, and what (if anything) helped??

Sorry for the long post...I just had to get some of this stuff off my chest because it is seriously depressing and has degraded the quality of my life immeasurably. I exercise a lot too (6 days a week, including running, walking, and weight lifting) in case that helps.

Thank you.
