I live in a small town but I have a sumwhat large town close to me and I'm trying to get some ideas of some substitutes that I can use. I've found substitute cheese and "turkey" slices for my sandwiches. (They smell like cat food but it tastes pretty good) If anyone could help me with some names of some good substitutes that I could find in like Bi-Lo or Giant Eagle I would love you forever

There's a great brand of fake Jerky. I can't think of the name, but if I do, I'll post it here. Comes sliced in small packages in different flavors.

Morningstar farms makes fake chicken nuggets and corn dogs, if that kinda thing is up your alley.

jwnyc, I think you're thinking of "Stonewall's Jerquee." That stuff rocks. One of our co-ops sells it in bulk, even.

It's usually with the nuts & popcorn at the store, or up front by the checkout counters. All sorts of flavors, from teriyaki to pepper to mild.

I usually snack on something like corn chips and salsa or peanut butter and wheat things.

As for fake meat, I'm partial to Yves chilli dogs (when on sale), gardenburger riblets, and deep fried tofu if you wanna think of that as meat.

Dude. Do what I do, and just slowly go down each aisle and check everything out. My first time shopping at a Whole Foods, I must have spent $150 and had a month's worth of snacks and meat analogues. Made the transition to being vegan fun, exciting, and easy!

My first vegan trip to Whole Foods took about three hours of simply checking out everything I could get my hands on. I indulged and spent nearly $200 on groceries, but I had enough snacks and meat analogues to last a month! I got up to speed on what was great and what sucked very fast!

Epski,

Every trip I make to whole foods lasts that long! I live in Orlando, home of Disney World, but, I have dubbed Whole Foods the "happiest place on earth." I get this great feeling just being in there.

I don't use a lot of analogs except for:

Tofu Pups (Lightlife), Smart Bacon (Lightlife), Gardenburgers (Portabello flavour), Grill-Ready Brats (Lightlife).

For ice cream: Soy Delicious in either the butter pecan or the pecan almond flavour.
