Turtle right in front of my house.

The truck driver looked annoyed when I said "don't go yet, there's a turtle under your truck." He woulda squished it if I didn't yell "stop" -- he almost squished it anyway. Then he gave me one of those "oh, I can see you're a retard, so I'll humor you" looks (I look like one but I'm not), when I said OK, it's clear now.

Idiot. It's one thing to kill an animal if you have some need for it, or think you do, but to just run it over because it would take you about 10 seconds longer to stop, or maneuver around it, makes me sick, and angry. I feel people like that deserve capital punishment.

I decided to pick it up and move it to the other side of the road, even though it didn't ask for help. I didn't feel like waiting there and watching out for it for 20 minutes -- it being a slow-moving turtle -- until it finally got to the other side.

Damn are they slow.

And there "armor plates" are useless against pickup trucks.

I would have done the same thing. One time, there was a family of geese (a mama and her babies) trying to cross the road to get to the big pond across the streeet. It was a busy road and tehy kept stepping out and jumping back. I got out of my car, jumped in the middle of the road and stopped traffice while they crossed. I got a lot of people really pissed at me because I took like 30 seconds out of their commute. I was late too, but I'd rather be late, then see a whole family of geese die because people were too impatient to care. They got to their pond safely and I felt like a good person that day

I had a very similar thing happen to me a few weeks back!

I was driving home from Minneapolis by myself one afternoon when I noticed this huge 'lump' on the road in the distance. I slowed down and noticed it was a giant snapping turtle.

Now, I'm terrified of these things. They walk slow, but their jaws and heads are fast and strong. I knew I had to get it off of the road, but I didn't want to risk my fingers in the process. I couldn't pick it up (I swear that thing had to have weighed 40lbs. It was HUGE.) I ended up going behind it and ever-so-slowly shuffling it across the road with my feet. There were cars swerving around us- no one bothered to stop and help me. The turtle was completely terrified of me, too- he was hissing and kept lunging his head and snapping jaws in my direction. Needless to say, after 25 minutes I managed to get him across the road. I was late for work because of it .Imagine the look on my boss's face when I explained to her why I was late.

My father in law has rescued 2 turtles this past week. Because of all the rain we've had in our area, the turtles had been washed down the street, and away from shelter. They were Box Turtles and he found nice homes for hem in a wooded area, by a stream, away from houses.

Good job, to all those who help a fellow creature in need!

I think maybe turtles are my favorite animals along with rabbits. They are soooooooooo slow. I think that's why I like them.

Yeah. One time I got out of my car on my way from work one night.....It was like 11:00PM, and I saw this little baby kitty on the side of the road. It was right by a farm, but the farm is on a very busy road, so I decided to stop to see if I could get it and bring it to the people's house. I pulled over on the opposite side of the road and got out of my car. Right as I did, the kitty ran across the street and got hit by a car going like 60mph...The car kept going...I'm not sure if they saw the cat, but they had to have seen me on the side looking like a maniac, jumping up and down and screaming...I ran out to it, and the poor thing's nose was all bloody, but amazingly it was ok. I took it in for a couple days, went back to that place, and no one knew about it. It was a farm cat that probably strayed from it's mother. I found a good home for it though! And it's as healthy as can be.

LOL..... just yesterday, I picked one up out of the middle of the road while jogging. I slow-jogged with it until I found a good place to take it. I got a really curious look from a driver heading towards me who saw me in jogging gear, carrying this big ol' box turtle.
